Best option for Washington at 6?
Who is the best option for Washington at 6? Would it be one of the top 5 falling to them (Tre Johnson, Ace Bailey, Jeremiah Fears) or going after a slight reach and taking Khaman Maluach?
I lean toward the reach to shore up the defensive side of the ball. With A. Sarr and K. Maluach, Washington would have a formidable front line.
J. Fears seems like a duplicate of B. Carrington.
T. Johnson would sit behind J. Poole.
And A. Bailey would sit behind B. Coulibaly.
The young pick needs to be on the floor to learn how to play in the NBA.

Probably needs to be moved the Draft board.

I don’t think Bailey (or Edgecomb) fall so it’d be between Fears, Johnson, or reaching. I’d probably trade back with Brooklyn (assuming they want one of the guys) and grab 8 and an additional first (19?).
Maluach at 8 and then, if he’s around Newell at 19 would be a great haul for their frontcourt.

Rest in peace Mamba. There'll never be another Kobe.

This x10000000000
Washington is in talent acquisition mode. Pick the guy you think will be the best NBA player. Don't overthink it. If Fears and Bub or Ace and Coulibaly both pan out and you figure out in 2-3 years that they're redundant, you can deal with it then.
(and not to be a d*ck, but let's be real: none of Sarr or Coulibaly or Bub or anyone else on the Wizards roster has shown enough yet for you to write their name in permanent marker)

Yeah, take who you think is best. But I'd also consider moving up, down, in or out, depending on the offers and how you perceive players. Personally my preferred option if I were them would be try to move up for Ace Bailey, Tre Johnson or VJ Edgecombe if the cost is not prohibitive.

Good points. If you love a guy and can get up to him for a cost you can live with--thats probably the best plan. If you love a guy and are comfortable nobody else loves him as much as you and you can drop back and still get him while picking something else up, also great.
But because I have no idea how possible that is either way, the easy answer is just take the best guy.

Re: Best option for Washington at 6?
I would try to raise with 6+18++ for Bailey (who I don't think is redundant at all with Coulibali) if not possible, do I trade down to turn 6 and 18 into Queen and Essengue?..

This....
Actually Washington could then possibly package #18 + #19 to move up to #12(?)
They could come out with Maluach (8) and Bryant (12).

Nah - keep it here. There's a lot more discussion here.

The concern is NOP possibly grabbing K. Maluach at 7. They are stacked at forwards (Murphy, Jones, Williamson). So unless they like a guard better, Maluach might come off the board here.

Go with Fears if he's there. If he's gone, Jakucionis. Wizards should be scouting the lead guards outside Harper.

They also drafted Missi last year in the first round, and he's looked pretty solid. Doesn't prevent them from taking another C, but might push them towards a guard.

We have 191 pages of discussion on the matter on the Wizards board.
The answer to the OP is: pick the best player available. The trick is identifying the best player, and that's where opinions vary. The Wizards certainly won't be concerned much about fit.

I would say, do not reach. If they identify 1-3 guys who they like and it looks like any or all of them could be there at 10-14 they need to make the effort to trade down and get another 1st this year or next. There's always some team that gets the idea in the room that 'this guy is our guy' and they'll talk themselves into giving up too much to move up for him.

Re: Best option for Washington at 6?
I like Maluach a lot, but Sarr looks good- if WAS doesn’t love anyone…how about :
WAS picks Maluach and send him to ORL
ORL sends Jett Howard and ORL 26 frp (with PHX swap right)
…if I understand the swap, this would give WAS the TWO BEST of WAS, PHX, and ORL.

I tend to think high in the draft you go best player available, and in the 2nd round you go for best available and hope they can simply be an nba player, while only worrying about team needs somewhere after 10. I definitely wouldn’t let Poole stop me from drafting a guy if I thought he was the best available.

Best PF or Wing available, of which almost none should have come off the board except Coop maybe Ace. Jakuciounis if they want a guard. 6 is a great spot. Essengue Demin Queen Sorber Newell Fleming Boyles i like a lot. Maybe trade down like 3 spots to Toronto at 9, trading Smart for Poeltl & #39 and future 1st? Take 1 of those dudes at 9, another one at 18, then try and trade 39+40 to move up to 31 or something?

I guess the Nets would be interested in that 8th pick + Future Knicks FRP for the 6th. The NETS take Fears and the WIZARDS select Essengue at the 8th.

Easily yes from the Wizards. They don't love anyone at 6 and the price from going up from 8 to 6 should not be too expensive. To be fair, I don't think the Nets give up a future unprotected Knicks 1st unconditionally. I'd want the least valuable of the 2029 ((that the Nets own unconditionally) Knicks 1st), 2029 Nets 1st, or (Nets currently get least valuable of (Houston, Dallas, and Phoenix's 2029 1st)) to move down from 6 to 8.
