Brooklyn / Utah
UTA IN: #8, 26 swap rights with BRK
UTA Out: #5
BRK IN: #5
BRK Out: #8, 26 swap rights
Simple trade with a bit of a gamble. Brooklyn gambles that Utah won't be able to execute the swap. Utah gambles that dropping three spots is worth a shot just in case BRK jumps in the draft next year.

Re: Brooklyn / Utah
Brooklyn would never entertain this.
Brooklyn has #19, #26, #27, 2027 NYK 1st, 2027 PHI 1st (Top 8 protected), 2028 PHI 1st, 2029 1st (Worst of 3), 2029 NYK 1st, 2031 NYK 1st as future 1sts to trade if they want to move up.
There is no way Brookyln entertains trading down from #1 in next years draft to move up 3 spots here. Pick 1 of these assets and start the deal there, but remember teams typically don't move up 3 spots from #8 to #5 for an unprotected 1st.

Looking at the Luka trade, for instance, which moved from #5 to #3 and cost an unprotected 1st-round pick the following year. Seems like a similar value?

Per Basketball-Reference 2019 1st-rd pick is top-5 protected
But, regardless, you know there is no way Brooklyn considers trading the #1 pick to move up from #8 to #5, right?
And, on top of this, that trade was a draft day trade where what many considered a generational prospect in Luka Doncic fell to #3 in the draft and Dallas moved up. Is that the case here, where Brooklyn see's Cooper/Harper falling to #5 and moves up?
Context is important.

Re: Brooklyn / Utah
yep that Dallas pick was protected and it was for Luka freaking Doncic who lots of analysts familiar with European basketball were screaming as loud as they could that he was a future superstar.
Add to that Brooklyn has lots of ways to add value other than potentially having a disaster next year, its just not a good option. But if Utah is okay with dropping they can definitely provide reasonable value.

I don't see a Luka being available with the Jazz pick.

Re: Brooklyn / Utah
I am not doing this if I am Utah. Not worth the gamble. Utah is much more likely to be the worse team next year and have a better pick and it was all for nothing. Rather trade for a guaranteed pick in a couple years or something else if trading back was really the priority.

Re: Brooklyn / Utah
Not touching this for Brooklyn. 3 through about 9 is one big jumbled mess. There's no major talent drop off in there, and no reason to pay a premium to move up a few spots from #8.
The rumors that have been swirling is them packaging picks to move up from #26 to about #20, and looking at packaging #19 with Cam J to move up.

What is the goal? Brooklyn targeting who at 5?

Re: Brooklyn / Utah
Brooklyn only does this if Milwaukee is on the other line and 5 helps finalize a Giannis deal (and Utah doesn’t know about that deal? Cause then they don’t do their deal..)
But for Utah.. If they actually go win now as talked about.. they are trading back for free? They only have a pick if they’re bottom 8.
Think Brooklyn would and should obviously be interested in paying something to move up. But not that price.
And Utah shouldn’t really be interested in trading back as they have enough meh pieces.

Re: Brooklyn / Utah
Houston already has a swap on the Nets pick in 2027.
Unless they are trading for Durant to win now there is no way they do this.

Well... I see I suggested a winner! Not often do I completely miss out on both sides; I've got to file this one away in my archives of shame.
