Spurs Land Giannis & KD to Philly

Post#1 » by jredsaz » Wed Jun 4, 2025 9:46 pm

Sixers receive Kevin Durant
(Out: Paul George, #3)
Top 8: Maxey, McCain, Oubre, KD, Embiid, Walker, Bona, Council
Sixers get out of the PG business and land KD. Had Morey got a shot at Flagg or Harper their thinking may be different but one more shot at a title with Embiid is at the top of their list of priorities.

Suns receive Lauri Markkanen, Jared Butler, #14
(Out: Kevin Durant)
Top 8: Book, Beal, Dunn, Markkanen, Richards, Allen, ONeale, Martin
Suns retool with Lauri and #14. Moving up in the draft and securing a win now piece are the priorities for the Suns in a KD trade.

Jazz receive Paul George, Justin Edwards, #2 (Harper)
(Out: Lauri Markkanen #5)
Top 8: George, Harper, Collins, Kessler, Filipowski, Sexton, Clarkson, Hendricks
Ainge wants a young face of the franchise and hasn’t been able to get one even after all this tanking. Harper looks the part and Ainge takes on PG in order to get it done.

Spurs receive Giannis Antetokounmpo, #21
(Out: Harrison Barnes, Keldon Johnson, Stephon Castle, #2, #14, 2027 ATL 1st via SAS, 2029 SAS 1st
Top 8: Fox, Vassell, Champagne, Giannis, Wemby, Sochan, Wesley, Branham
Spurs get a top 3 guy in the NBA to pair with the next face of the NBA. instead of forcing a fit of Harper/Fox/Castle, they cash in some chips and become an immediate contender with PLENTY of money to add more talent to the roster.

Bucks receive Harrison Barnes, Keldon Johnson, Stephon Castle, #3, #5, 2027 ATL 1st via SAS, 2029 SAS 1st
(Out: Giannis Antetokounmpo)
Top 8: Castle, Porter Jr., Connaughton, Kuzma, Porter, Green, #3, #5
Bucks get a haul for Giannis and can supercharge a rebuild. Castle is seen as a culture setter and #3 and #5 give them multiple opportunities to add potential all stars.

Oh it’s an absolute monster of a deal. I get where you’re coming from but this would have to be appealing for Morey.

Before entering this thread, I knew it was #3 + George for KD. This is DOA and just digging a bigger hole for Philly.
2025-2026 Philadelphia 76ers:

Maxey/McCain/Lowry
Grimes/Edgecombe/Gordon
Oubre/Edwards/Council
George/Watford/Walker

I was trying to be flippant, but it didn't work in print. So I edited. What I'm trying to say is the deal is awful for Philly. Any plans made with Joel in mind are bad ones.

As a Bucks fan they need a path to a star player. The value isn't terrible especially given the abundance, but a dollar is more valuable than ten dimes. If something like this happened I see if New Orleans is interested in something around 7+ the pick swap rights in '26 for Castle or #3.

I'd prefer that (Edgecombe/Knueppel/Fears) with the shot at tanking in '26 for Dynabasta/Peterson/Boozer

I was thinking that too. It’s an obvious pivot for the Bucks

I don’t think that’s a realistic view for Morey and the Sixers front office

Morey has said he wants to get younger, not older, this offseason.

I was expecting that anyone referencing “the process” in their name would be vehemently against this move  2 for 2!

Well I think KD is physically younger than PG

I don't know any Sixers fan who wants this trade, yet it keeps getting put out there.

Kyle Neubeck has also spoken to sources within the team who have rejected the idea of doing a trade like this (KD or Lauri for #3 were mentioned).

Snuck Justin Edwards in there too, ay?

#3 for KD is a "nah son" from me. I could maybe see like a trade down deal where the Sixers pick up an asset and then flip the trade down pick for KD.

For instance, if New Orleans wants to give me Herb Jones to swap #3 for #7, you could talk me into PG+7 for KD giving you a legit title contender if you can get a 60 game season out of Embiid.

Anyway... In general, this just feels way too big to work.

The Bucks and Spurs figure out something straight up.

Perhaps stop trying to steal from the Sixers so the Suns can get what they want for KD?

I didn't even notice lifting Justin Edwards either.

You guys are likely looking at a Randle/filler/17 package, or KAT.

KD isn't the needle mover like he used to be.

Paul George, Justin Edwards, Jared Butler, and #3 for an expiring KD?

That’s an expensive salary dump.

Not interested in any trade that involves attaching the 3rd pick to Paul George to get aging Kevin Durant. It's massive overpay and it does nothing to solve the 76ers short or long term issues.

People act like George's legs were amputated, and we'll mortgage our future to get rid of his contract, which wouldn't even result in us having legitimate cap space.

Every bit of messaging from trusted local and national reporters is that the Sixers want to get younger and more athletic.

None of these PG + 3 trades will ever work. They just had a complete disaster of a season. They’re not trading the reward for a vet without a lottery pick coming back or to get off PG’s contract. Morey needs PR wins right now. Selling hope in the form of a high draft pick is the best possible non-Embiid outcome for him.

Exactly. They aren't using the third pick to salary dump PG.
