With all the talk about Cavs willing to listen for offers on Garland/Allen I did some google about it and found this crazy proposal trade.

I've copied the link here, but for those who don't want to click read below.

https://lakeshowlife.com/lakers-finally-land-dream-center-chaotic-espn-trade-pitch-true#:~:text=Los%20Angeles%20would%20then%20receive,Knecht%20to%20the%20Chicago%20Bulls.&text=It's%20a%20complicated%20proposal%2C%20but,round%20pick%20swaps%20for%20Allen.

The trade.

Cavs Get; 2025 1st pick, Jevon Carter, Gafford, Washington, Maxi, Gabe,

Mavs Get; Donovan Mitchell, Lakers 31st FRP and 2 pick swaps from Lakers

Bulls Get; Knecht, Caleb Martin, 2026 pick and 27 and 28 SRP from Cavs

Lakers Get; Jarret Allen

Feel free to block thread anytime if need mods :)

I don't want to block it but if you are going to present it as a thread and not just something to toss in the rumor/random thoughts thread, you are responsible for reasons for each team.

I think the Lakers are easily cut out and a 3rd team willing to offer more for Allen could be brought in.

As a Cavs fan I would do it. I wouldn’t do it if I were Dallas. Can they not just get Giannis for Flagg?

Lakers It's easy why
Bulls side; get sharp shooter Knecht who can grow with Bulls team, don't know too much about Caleb but they get some picks with the deal also
Dallas, get picks and of course a shotingguard to role with AD and can help replace Irving while his out?
Cavs get some size and stay under the CBA & #1, I think it's why Cavs are looking at possibly trading Allen/Garland or at least entertaning the idea of it.

Yes if Dallas wants to go down that road with Giannis, but until Giannis requests a trade from Bucks and wants out, Bucks are not trading Giannis and as far as I know Giannis hasn't done that yet - Bucks want to keep Giannis as much as possible.

In this case Dallas would get a playmaking? shootingguard to team up with AD and help while Kyrie is out, Dallas has shown interest in Reaves since Kyrie went down for this reason, but this case they get Mitchell (+ picks) who is way, way better then Reaves.

It looks good to get Knechte and get the 3 2nds thrown in for a team that doesn't have many 2nds.
and all they give up is Jevon Carter who they haven't had a use for

But even though Caleb Martin only makes about $10M he's got 3 years to go, he's already 29 years old and there isn't much chance he plays. The Bulls made the mistake of signing Christiano Felicio about 6 years ago and couldn't play him or get rid of him for 3 years. That was their mistake, I don't know if they want to stand up to take someone else's 3 year mistake. They can draft 3 kids at like #55 as CLE contends but they're short a roster slot for any of them with Martin hanging around.

Have to say pass, buyout Carter and find another shooter walking the streets

I just don't think Flagg is worth Mitchell plus Allen. The Mavs will do it for Mitchell, or they won't.

For those of us who lived through the Danny Ferry trade i would say hell no.

You’d be crazy to not jump at a Mobley + Flagg pairing for the next decade.

This twin towers + little person backcourt will never work.

Sorry but to say that this is awful for the Mavs is an understatement.

And value aside, another big problem with trading for any max contract player not named KD is that Mavs have to renounce a lot of depth, on top of Flagg.
Imho none of the available superstars are worth that, not even Giannis considering how depleted the roster would result after his acquisition, let alone Mitchell.

This simplifies to cutting out Allen and the Lakers from the deal. Then it’s:

Dallas out: 2 of Klay, Washington, Gafford; Martin; #1
Dallas in: Mitchell, CLE draft capital (2031 1st, 2030 & 2032 swaps?)

Bulls out: Jalen Smith
Bulls in: their pick of Gafford/Washington/Klay offered by Dallas (ie Gafford); sweetener?

Cleveland out: Mitchell, draft capital
Cleveland in: #1; worst of Dallas 3 (ie Klay); Martin; Jalen Smith

It works even better if you cut the Mavs out of the deal as well xD
Mitchell is not that kind of player you trade Flagg for.

Lively / Powell
Davis / Prosper
Klay / Marshall
Mitchell / Christie / Hardy
Irving (out until January) / Williams

This roster sucks, it's not even better than the current one.

Why are the Cavs giving up all that draft capital in addition to Mitchell? Is Cooper Flagg the next LBJ? Has he won MVP without stepping foot on an NBA court?

I'm sorry, but there's no guarantee he's ever as good as Mitchell. We have not yet conveyed the first pick we owe from the Mitchell trade. I'm not stacking 3 more firsts on top of 4 for a time period when Mobley won't be even be under contract.

This is dumb in every way, as are most Cooper Flagg clickbait articles. Cavaliers just won 64 games. They aren't going to take a step back like this. They should run it back and hope to break through next year.

Mavericks got lucky and get an elite talent on a rookie contract. They aren't trading that away for a third max contract guy. The player they trade this pick for probably starts and ends with Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Just stupid all around.

If I'm trading Mitchell and Allen, I'm probably going after an established player like Giannis as opposed to a guy you hope ends up being a top 3 player.

I was just cutting out the Lakers and Allen while conveying similar value to Dallas, not advocating for it. Generally, simpler deals are more realistic. Allen to the Lakers was just a way to put the article on the Laker feeds at ESPN.

That said— Flagg is a top 3-5 prospect of the decade (behind Zion and Wemby and not sure who else). He’s under team control for 8 years. Mitchell is under team control for 2 years, the Cavs are waiting for Mobley to become their best player, and Mitchell might be in the way of that.

As many wins as the Cavs put together in the regular season, they collectively didn’t look ready to win a championship in the playoffs anytime soon. Flagg would be a soft reset. You still get to not care about missing draft picks because Mobley/Garland/Flagg should win games for a decade and swaps are unlikely to convey to a team whose stars will all be gone by then.

For Dallas, a top 5 MVP candidate for three role players absolutely should make you a better team. Mitchell in Klay’s place is the direction I’d go here.

Both are natural directions for both teams— Cavs keep selling the future with a younger roster, Dallas gets serious about actually building a contender rather than hoping a rookie pushes them over the top.

I'd sooner trade Allen with Mitchell than make it 7 years worth of owed draft capital, and I'm disinclined to trade them both for Flagg. Seven years of owed draft capital is way, way too much.

I'm old enough to remember when Bill Simmons coined the phrase Riggin for Wiggins. The Cavs ended up adding two firsts to him to get Love.

What about including LeBron in the deal and just making it between Lakers, Cavs, Dallas?

Not if LBJ is making $52M at 41 years old.

Yeah, as a Cavs fan I easily do this. Garland-Flagg-Mobley for the next 7 years? Sign me up.
