Where does the value go?
Knicks and/or Grizz depending on how highly you think of Edey

Knicks need some for sure. Grizzlies too especially as you add this much salary when they want to trim value to extend JJJ so they will lose more rotation players as a result.
Just like my opinion though man.

Grizz can technically do this after extending JJJ

Not with 2025 pick in it....

Its not a sign and trade so its legal technically. Magic hold on to the rookie for a month.. inconvenient but possible.

I think we can essentially rule it out from a practical standpoint. Much simpler just to give the Grizzlies more value so they can shed more money(if they wanted to do this which I wouldn't think they would).

Why is the JJJ extension so crucial before the trade?

Value is fine but ORL really doesn’t need another SG. Bane is great, but ORL’s big swing shouldn’t be for an elite 3&D guy making absurd superstar money. Still ignoring ORL’s primary & secondary needs.

Mavs trade for Prosper in 23 couldn't be done until July 6th because that's when OKC would get their cap space, Kings made the pick and held onto him for 2 weeks.
There is a risk involved of course, when OKC traded for Knicks 1st, they picked Dieng with it, because the deal would need to be finalized later, they didn't want to risk the deal falling through, their eyes were on JDubb, not Dieng, they picked JDub with the later pick which was assured to be theirs.
Defense wins draft lotteries!

Re: KD to Knicks w/Grizz and Magic
I can’t see the Knicks doing KAT + Bridges for Durant with the extra value being Wendell Carter and Zach Edey. The knicks also don’t need both Carter/Edey.
The mechanics of a Durant/KAT swap are simple - Durant to NY, KAT to PHX, PJ Tucker, cash and a 2nd rd pick into a 3rd teams cap space or cap exception.
As a Knick fan I’m so torn about the trade. The best version of Durant makes the Knicks a better team, but how long do you have that version of Durant for.
I keep seeing this Bridges/JJJ swap, which would pair nicely with the Durant/KAT swap and allow the knicks to sign a Gary Trent Jr with the tax MLE to round out the roster.
Brunson/Trent Jr/Anunoby/Durant/JJJ
McBride/Hart/Robinson
I think this is a better team. Only one weak spot on defense (Brunson). Durant is an upgrade as a secondary shot creator and JJJ’s rim protection is more valuable than Bridges perimeter defense when you still have Anunoby plus Hart/McBride off the bench.
Use your minimums for Mitch insurance (Precious?) and another ball handler (Schroeder, D Russell, Brogdon) and you got yourself a team.

Small world. Neither are Kevin Durant, Wendell Carter Jr., or Zach Edey. Knicks are not giving up Mikal Bridges and KAT--two starters who've just proven under Crazy Thibs that they can play well in very heavy minutes over a full season--for old KD and two extremely flawed role players who'd be deeply buried on the bench on most NBA teams. I.e., we'd be downgrading and reducing our depth just months after knocking off the defending champions and losing 4-2 to the Pacers (currently up 1-0 vs. OKC) in six mostly very close games.
Meanwhile, per various media sources, the Suns have been trying to trade the disgruntled (yet again!) KD for months. Months...and yet he's still on the Suns. I think if he were really as valuable as some people here seem to think, a deal would have already been found for him. Personally, I don't want KD on the Knicks, but if he does come in an exchange for KAT, I think we'd (i.e., the Knicks) be the ones getting back some minor sweetener (2rps?) as well.
RIP magnumt--you're literally why I'm still here on these boards.
RIP The Hater--keep up the good fight in the great beyond.

Bane isnt making Superstar money. and over the past 3 years, similar assist numbers to Simons (possible Orlando target) while also keeping the defensive theme that Simons wouldnt provide. and better career 3 pt shooter than other Orlando targets.

Don't see the Knicks trading Bridges one year after sending out all those draft picks to get him.
