Up for sale: $10 million for $20 million

Apparently, Miami is looking to trade Duncan Robinson before July 8th which means the team taking him can waive him and save $10 million.

So, let's see what's out there!

You can use any combination of players or assets and take it in any direction you want to go. I want to see how you'd use Miami's assets...

I think it would depend on medicals, TBH. Not sure he's worth it for us. Feels kinda redundant with Jovic and like he'd get in the way of Ware, to me. Certainly something to keep in mind.

I like it, TBH. I'm kinda into the idea of a 6'10" small forward and I like Strawther.

Marcus Smart i would do, Jrue Holiday, I wouldn't. Not without lots of incentive.

So I previously had explored the dumps, where the Heat didn't have the dead money on the books. Tons of options if they use him to buy something, but I've fared pretty poorly with the Heat fans on that side lol.

My favorite is still the one where Hauser ends up a Heat to replace him as a rotation shooter at the same money this year as cutting him because his future money is easy enough to get off where he wouldn't hold up any big plans beyond this season. But I've done that already so...

I agree.. I can see Smart recovering his best game in Miami (it wouldn't be the first time they bring out the best version of a veteran) and I think he fits like a glove

I don't think it works that way anymore. If Robinson's contract is only guaranteed for $10M than it only counts as $10M outgoing from Miami for salary matching (but the full $20M incoming to a new team). So it's not particularly useful as a salary dump.

Though a team taking him in as a dead-weight salary would only owe $10M rather than $20M so Miami would have to provide less incentive to move him.

Yeah, to me he's a perfect addition. Put him next to Herro with Mitchell off the bench and the backcourt looks pretty strong to me.

Yeah, still don't see the need for Hauser. I feel like we can develop someone, and I'm just not a big fan of his.

I get not wanting to take the gamble on Jrue’s final year, but he’s still a much better version of smart in every way.

Also, not sure Smart is recovering anything except from injury - he’s pretty much been who he’s always been the last two years when healthy… love the guy, bet he is who he is.

Marcus Smart is a one year deal. It's a gamble, sure, but it's one year.

Jrue Holiday is already declining, and he has 3 years left. He's owed $83 million more than Smart. It's not a gamble. You know what's going to happen. We Heat fans know what's going to happen. We watched it with Kyle Lowry.

I don't think you're right on this one. His option isn't due until July 8th.

i don't think that's how that works though. players have partial guarantees that run much later into the offseason than this, and they don't get to use the larger salary as filler. Unless his money gets guaranteed, he's only going to count as $10M

Doesn't matter.
Guaranteed money is what is used for salary matching purposes.

Miami (or a receiving team can guarantee MORE of his contract to complete a deal if needed)

This is the deal I keep coming back to. Maybe the Heat can squeeze pick 32 out of Boston as well. Boston saves a ton in luxury taxes. Miami gets a frontcourt piece that if healthy fits perfect with Bam and Ware. If he isn’t then he is a huge expiring. It also clears Anderson’s 26-27 money off the books. Win-win for both teams.

Outgoing salary calculations are based on the lesser of the current year salary that’s ending or the guaranteed salary in the following year, during this summer period. The receiving team has to account for the entirety of Robinson’s contract. So, if Robinson is gtd for $10m, then Miami has to calculate their salary matching at $10m.

But more important, Duncan has an early termination option that he has to act on before any deals could possibly be done. There is no team option, just the partial guarantee that fully guarantees on 7/8.
