DENVER
In: Clarksson/21
Out:Saric/Nnaji/Tyson/Denver 31

Denver gets a veteran 6th man candidate (expiring) who can provide scoring and playmaking off the bench and they enter what is supposed to be a deep Draft...where guys like Fleming/Newell/Clifford or Yang (to name a few) are projected as future good role players.

JAZZ
In:Saric/Nnaji/Tyson/Denver 31
Out: Clarksson/21

With limited premium assets and still in an early stage of their rebuild, they get a high-variance future pick and do the right thing with Clarksson (who has been a good soldier) by sending him to a contender.

I think there could be different variations of this trade... the Jazz keep their pick, Denver sends more salary, and they get Sexton?... thoughts

As a Jazz fan/GM you would be way better off grabbing Collins.

I'd absolutely do that. Then trade the 21st pick for another pick down the road.

Jazz need to add a future 1st, 2nd worst of their 27 picks.

I had doubts about this, but I agree...send the worst of your 2027 picks?

Denver would have a hard time matching Collins' salary and would still need a manager to come off the bench.

Clarcsson is not worth the pick. He is a career 6th man on the wrong side of 30. You might argue that the deal includes a salary dump, but its a very small salary dump and those contracts can be used as salary fillers in better trades.

Saric is a 5 mill expiring (assuming he opts in, witch would be a smart thing)
Nnaji is overpaid but its still not that much. He is owed around 8 million and he is maybe worth 2 as a deep bench piece or a reclamation project.

No one is giving up a 1st to dump that little money and get a declining bench piece.

Edit: I forgot about the 21 pick. That makes the deal much different but without another deal in witch we see what the 21s pick gets Denver its hard to judge.

Denver needs win now players, not picks.

I don't see that as a likely outcome.

2nd worst, worst is going to PHX.
Clarkson for the flotsam requires marginal value, not even a 1st so it's basically the PHX trade, 31 1st for 3 bad ones, in this case 2 less crappy ones.

I'm trying to follow the logic where taking on $15MM in essentially dead money beyond this season is not worth even a FRP. The Jazz took on zero dollars in the Suns deal.

If Clarkson for flotsam is only of marginal value, then take the players out of the deal and just do the picks.

If that 31 pick is Unprotected I would have to say yes.

To the original deal for just the one pick, yes.

It's also 2 1sts vs 3...

2 better ones by your own admission. Which pick package is better? Would PHX trade the two "worst of" in '27 and '29 for the "second worst" in '27? I would expect them at the very least to consider it. That leaves the relative difference in value between picks #21 & #29 this year.

I don't see much difference TBH, trade #21 for #28 and get the proceeds...
The main point is that #21 and eating 15M over 2 years in Nnaji doesn't get 31 unprotected and the additional 1st is needed.

I get your point I just see it as flawed given the comparison you initiated.

I think this makes more sense with Sexton if Denver can swing the salary. That gives them a guy who can average 20+ if Murray goes down for any stretch of time AND Sexton is a much better game manager than Clarkson.
