Heat get: Steph Castle, Harrison Barnes, Keldon Johnson

Why for Phoenix: Balance their iso heavy roster with no big men and no defense with a great defending center.
Why for Spurs: Get KD for a run at a ring in these two years of Wemby's rookie deal.
Why for Heat: Tear down and rebuild, getting a very "Heat-culture" like prospect in the process.

This is crazy, even if you assume the premise is correct (Spurs wanting to take advantage of Wemby's last 2 rookie scale years), it doesn't mean Spurs should pay more than they have to. Castle isn't moving for 37 year old KD.

I feel like we're paying the bill for the guy Riley probably actually wants so that he can go to another team. Personally, I like the idea of Castle in Miami but I don't see the Spurs doing it, and certainly not for a 37 year old Durant.

This is really bad for the Heat though, really really bad. We don't even need to get into the billionth Spurs hate KD argument here because of how brutal this is for Miami. Bam returns more than a solid prospect and some bad money.

Bam is worth much more than KD easily.

Spurs are not trading Castle for 2 years of KD if they believe in him, much better to send 3 future firsts

Castle/Barnes/Johnson has more value than the packages being thrown out for KD, like Vassell, Barnes and 14.

No, the Spurs wouldn't and shouldn't trade Castle for KD. No one expects them to. But I still don't know why you paint Spurs fans as being anti-Durant when they're divided and leaning toward KD if anything.

I agree Miami shouldn't be in this deal because it makes no sense to trade Bam for KD, even without considering value. That obscures the fact that the Spurs aren't trading Castle when they have the flexibility they do.

If the Spurs convince themselves that Wemby and Bam Adebayo is a good fit next to eachother, I see no reason for Spurs not to cut out the Suns and just deal with the Heat straight up, while being willing to give up additional assets if they're giving up Stephen Castle anyway. A 37 year old Kevin Durant is not returning a blue chip prospect like Stephen Castle.

I mean, I agree with you. Bam would likely be the most valuable asset in this trade, but I really like Castle. I'm, personally, for cashing in on the value. I would think 14 would have to be going out as well, and KJ would have to be going elsewhere for a more useable player even if 14 goes with him.

Still I don't see Miami trading him and especially not in a KD trade.

I think a Ware-centric trade is the move if the Hear want KD. Add in the pick this year and whatever filler is needed like Duncan and Rozier.

I think it is highly unlikely the spurs trade anyone until deadline. I can see the Spurs doing a trade for the 14th pick for future picks. I hope they can trade some of their busts along with the pick for even more picks with the 14th pick.

I think people underrate how good ware is given that he is on a cost controlled rookie contract but he doesn’t make Bam a guy who should be traded to reset the clock.

Nah, I'd keep Ware. Durant is 37, injury prone, and had killed every team he's been on since Golden State.

Given Pat Riley's history of not extending players 35+, I can't see the Heat giving up a lot for Durant only to let him walk later on.

Yup, which is more reason I don't want him. The Suns asked for Ware this season and Miami wasn't willing to pay the asking price.

Why are the Spurs overpaying for KD just to help the Suns get Bam?

The Spurs aren't trading Castle for KD, given their timeline, so this trade doesn't work. I doubt the Heat would be too keen on trading Bam either.

The thing that maybe makes this trade off for me is that I don't really like any of these players very much. The Castle and Durant issues have been covered at length in other threads, but I'll talk about Bam for a second.

Bam had a really great 2020-2021 season after managing to help the Heat make the Finals in 2020. But he has gotten worse literally every year since then. He has gone from a 110 TS+ to a 97 TS+ while his usage has not increased and his AST% has gone down significantly. This year, he was arguably not even the best player on a team that went 37-45. Admittedly, a lot of the role players on the Heat are pretty terrible, but Bam still did not have a good year last year. I don't think he's like much better than like the 10th best center in the NBA at best.

If your take on Bam is based strictly on his offense, you're missing who Bam actually is.

Okay, but Bam went from a very good offensive player to a not very good offensive player.
