Cavs send: Garland, Okoro
Cavs get: Herb, Cam Johnson, Alvarado, pick #26 (+ get under 2nd apron)
Pels send: pick #7, Herb, Alvarado, D. Murray
Pels get: Garland, Okoro, pick #27
Nets send: Cam Johnson, pick #26, pick #27
Nets get: pick #7, D. Murray
Cavs swap Garland for two playoff-caliber wings, a good backup PG who Mitchell likes, and a late 1st to take a depth talent swing. They also get under the 2nd apron for more flexibility.
Pels target a star guard to pair with Murphy and Zion (for now), so they use pick #7 and Murray to secure Garland as PG of the now and future. They also get back Okoro (unless Nets really want him) and a late 1st to add a depth piece (Kalkbrenner/Yang/Thiero/Saraf/KamJones/Penda). They position themselves to still trade McCullom and/or Olynyk expirings to fill out the roster.
Nets move up to the mid lotto to get two high upside rookie prospects to kick start their rebuild. The combinations are fun with two of: Fears, Maluach, Essengue, Demin, Kon, CMB, Bryant) along with their #19 and #36 picks still in hand. They can rehab Murray's value after his return from rehab, with their sights set on the 2026 draft.
Allen/ Wade
Mobley/ Hunter
CamJ/ Tyson
Strus/ Herb
Mitchell/ Alvarado (Jerome?)/ #26
Missi/ Olynyk/ #27
Zion/ Matkovic
Murphy/ Boston
Okoro/ Hawkins/ Reeves (CJ)
Garland/ FA

Interesting idea, I think it's short on value for Garland but I'm higher on him than most

Huge overpay for Garland

Id rather Cleveland end up with Johnson and Murray then find a balance of the other assets splitting up to the other teams. Something like Nets keep 26, Herb, Alvarado, and 7 for Johnson.

Wayyyyy too much from NO. I love Garland but I’m not even sure I want him at his salary. Just like Cleveland. Murray, Jose, Herb and #7???

How does Cleveland make a deal to get under the 2nd apron... while being over the 2nd apron? Outside of the legalities, Cleveland has no interest in a nickel and dime trade for Garland.

From my understanding, a 2nd apron team can only aggregate salaries if the end result of the trade puts them below the 2nd apron. Can you confirm this for us?
Stability is a fair stance to take on such a good team. What kind of "dollar" worthy player do you think they could realistically get for Garland? Some believe we're in the 'no weak link' era of NBA playoff basketball. Swapping the small guard for an all-defense player and a high level wing shooter (plus more) does have some merit.

I would like to see Allen moved in a follow up deal if the Cavs got Herb Jones (who is offensively challenged), but Allen's trade value may be limited after three straight postseason no shows.
If the Cavs can get good value from like the Lakers for Allen and then turn that into ball handling wing, I would like this a good bit.

You're acting like Murray is some valuable asset here. A late 20's point guard out half the season with the worst baseball injury possible, who isn't a great fit and was already showing decline in efficiency before the injury.
I'm factoring in transmitting his 3 year contract of 30+ million/season into a 25 y/o star lead guard who brings elite shooting and playmaking, a great fit alongside the Pelicans current good players. Some would say, Garland is the high end outcome for Jeremiah Fears, a projected top 7 pick.

Good effort some iteration of this could work depending on the second apron restrictions.

I like this type of deal for Cleveland. The Cavs don't get under the 2nd apron with this deal, but they do save $10 million in salary which amounts to much more in luxury tax savings. This probably makes it more feasible for the Cavs to keep Ty Jerome or Sam Merrill.
The Cavs lose some scoring and playmaking with Garland, but they gain defensively and get longer across the perimeter. That added length should also help on the boards. Ball handling is a concern, which makes retaining Ty Jerome more important. Alvarado can provide backup minutes at the one, and maybe the Cavs get lucky with Walter Clayton falling to pick #27.
As a Cavs fan, I would take this deal, though I wouldn’t be upset if the team passed on it either.

Even if you consider Dejounte Murray neutral, 7 + Herb for Garland is an overpay.

i think NOP will not commit to Garland's contract and CLE actually need Garland's playmaking....

Wait, I didn’t act like anything regarding murray. But speaking of, you are acting like we are trying to pay to get rid of our starting PG. we don’t want to get rid of him. He’ll be back mid season. It sucks he got hurt, it really really does. But we have no need to move off of him.
But let’s just say we take Maluach as a random pick. A couple months into the season, do we want Murray, Herb Jones, Jose and Maluach…..or just Garland. This isn’t a discussion

If you don't want Garland for free on his current contract, you obviously don't "love" him. That is ridiculous.

This is pretty good for such a big deal, but Brooklyn would have to absolutely love someone at 7 because otherwise this is rough for them. Murray was bad before he got hurt, coming off that injury expecting him to be a quality starter is super optimistic.

Agreed, you'd want Garland. It's basketball, you only play 5 guys at a time, individual talent > combined talent.

Mitchell is a SG. Playing him at a PG and asking him to bring the ball up, run an offense, make great passes seriously diminishes his value over a series or a season.
I think the trade value is generally fine. But if Cleveland does this they need to find a way to add a 3&D PG.

That's why the Pacers are in the Finals, right?
Depth matters too.

From Cleveland’s perspective they’re not aggregating. Cam Johnson and Herb Jones fit under Garland’s salary. Alvarado comes in under Okoro’s. No one’s salary on Cleveland’s side is combined to make the numbers work.
Which mitigates one of the big problems the deal has— Cleveland is very short on ballhandling afterwards. They will need to go back over the 2nd apron and retain Jerome and Merrill. But I think that’s OK?
