My Wishful Mavs Offseason
You know where this one is going, but would love to see some iteration of this as a Mavs fan
Step 1: Fire Nico Harrison, hire someone with basketball knowledge instead of shoe endorsement experience. Someone like Duke's Coach K, Jeff Van Gundy, or David Griffin.
Step 2: If Kidd and NY really want each other, only agree if you get draft compensation back (assuming 2nds). If so, hire Sweeney, Taylor Jenkins, or Sam Cassell.
Step 3: Draft Night Trades
Really 2 part trade
Dal gets: #6 Pick (via Wash), Kris Middleton, 2027 Mavs pick returned (via Cha), Seconds from Cha and/or Wash, Jusuf Nurkic
Cha gets: Anthony Davis
Wash gets: #4 pick (via Cha), Miles Bridges, Jaden Hardy
Cha pivots to a playoff push in a wide open East. A core of Ball/Miller/AD/Williams is potent when healthy. They don't give up any players of note.
Washington moves up 2 slots to better ensure they get their guy. They take on more long term money to do so, but Bridges and Hardy are still relatively young and fit what they're doing. Dallas can use #6 to get who they feel us the best among the remaining Tre Johnson/Kneuppel/Fears.
Trade 2 with Toronto
Klay Thompson & Caleb Martin for RJ Barrett
All 3 players suck and are overpaid, let's not hide that fact. But Klay fits Tor's starting lineup better and the two smaller contracts may be better to move for a bigger fush, even with Martin's extra year. Dallas gets a two who can play make better than current options.
Trade 3: Dallas uses Nurk or Gaff to trade for a point guard to hold Kyrie's spot until he returns.
Essentially Dallas cleans up the stench from the Nico Era, goes young, still competitive, and saves money.

I think I keep VJ/Tre/Bailey here and get stuck with Bridges? But I don’t think CLT is doing that trade unfortunately. (Or Dallas realistically..)

Charlotte gets: A. Davis

Re: My Wishful Mavs Offseason
Doing too much IMO. Just stick it out with this squad until Kyrie at the ASB.
Dinwiddie, Klay, Flagg, Davis, Lively
Exum, Christie, Naji, PJ, Gafford
Kyrie, Hardy, Martin, Omax, Powell
I expect maybe Mavs look to move Klay, Naji, Hardy to drop under second apron. That's likely the extent of the moves.

Even better offer imo.
Okogie is unguaranteed right?
Any chance of swapping him out for any vet min? Use 4th as salary matching.. Saves Dallas a fortune and doesn’t change much for Charlotte..

Re: My Wishful Mavs Offseason
Rather keep Barrett to see if he replicates 23-24 form in a lower usage role

I don’t care about Okogie, I just included him to try to match salary. We can wave him, I don’t know if a team can trade for him then wave him.

Your counter GoBobs is certainly fine. And that's coming from someone who hates Josh Green more than a guy whose girlfriend cheated with Josh. He's a bum, but I'd run with this deal

Yeah, I think Dallas would rather pay Jeffries 2 million than pay Okogie 8. If Charlotte has a worse vet min than Jeffries, feel free to include him..
I assume the OP’s plan (my favorite plan) would end up with some follow up/midseason deal to get under the tax completely. Would just be smart of the team in a lost season..

Re: My Wishful Mavs Offseason
Just because I don't care for this draft much after Flagg-Harper-VJ, and, I guess, because I think Charlotte needs to pick a lane and won't dump their core, I like the idea for the Hornets. AD probably does make that team pretty darn good. And I agree that it's simpler to just cut Washington out and bring the highest draft pick to Dallas.

Re: My Wishful Mavs Offseason
Good feedback all. A guy can hope and dream, at this point its all i have for the Mavs to fire Nico and trade Anthony Day to Day

Re: My Wishful Mavs Offseason
If the Mavs is to blow it up
Kyrie&Christie-LaMelo&Green swap
AD-#2, Castle, Harper, Vessell, Barnes
C - DLive / Gafford / Powell
PF - Flagg / PJ / OMax
SF - LaMelo / Barnes / Klay / Marshall
SG - Castle / Vassell / Martin / Hardy
PG - Harper / BWilliam / Green
Just play the rookies and let some contracts expires. Extend someone you want as a ling-term piece. And wait until you're getting under 2nd apron again.
Target big expiring contracts to unload some contracts.
