LAL in: Jaylen Brown
BOS in: 2030 pick swap, 2031 unprotected FRP, Austin Reaves, Rui Hachimura, Dalton Knecht, Gabe Vincent, Shake Milton
BOS trades Brown for an unprotected pick, a sub all-star level guard, a promising young player, and expirings.
LAL trades for Luka's star running mate-- a three level scorer that can defend at a high level.

So many teams can beat that offer. I don’t see Boston gifting LA.

Reaves has a player option he's certain to decline.

The contract would kill the Lakers ability to make a team around Luka, Brown, LeBron.
I think we've learned the lesson around spending 100% of cap on 3 players.

Ignoring the value of the trade, let's just talk financials.
LAL is currently, with 12 players signed, $4.4M below the 1st apron and $16.2M below the 2nd apron. This deal has them sending out $50.7M for $53.1M back. That hard caps them at the first apron. In a 5 for 1 deal, they'd have to now fill 6 roster spots with $1M. This would require, salary dumping Kleber, Vandy or DFS and even then it's really tight to fill out the required 14 spots.
The easy solution to that is to have LAL send out $3M more salary so they exceed Brown's number and are hard capped at the 2nd apron (for aggregating) rather than the first. However, problem is, they don't have $3M of salary to throw in because Bronny James is a sacred cow. They'd probably have to use Kleber or Vandy in the deal, presumably Kleber because Vandy's deal is negative value. But now you require some money to be dumped on someone else so BOS can do the deal as a 2nd apron team (though they PROBABLY end up under the 2nd apron anyway).
End of the day, the big issue is I don't think the value is there for BOS to do the deal and I'm not even sure LAL should tie up so much cap in 3 players if they're committed to keeping Lebron anyway. This also sucks up all their assets for a big man.

Really? What far better offer would be out there for Brown on a supermax?

I’m a Kings fan, I’d trade Sabonis and draft a defensive center.

Then yeah I think Celtics would definitely do that deal. Should make a thread on that.
Celtics could just send KP to the Nets and duck the tax this season in the process.
Jrue, White, Hauser, Tatum, Sabonis

Non-starter for Boston. They need a premium return for Brown and it has to come in the form of a guy who can play in the 2026-27 season. 2030-ish picks aren't interesting.

Basically this. LA doesn't have the cards.

Boston will not trade Brown this.
1 pick and a mediocre bench squad and expirings won’t cut it.
I think to make this at all interesting you have to at least add another pick and role in a third team somehow for a better player going back to Boston.

No need. This is already the thread for everyone to agree on Brown for Sabonis swap.

There is a Sabonis for Brown thread.

What about White? Is Reaves + Vincent + Lakers tradeable 1st enough value?

White probably has more value than Brown. Too 30-40 player on a team friendly contract. Lakers don’t have the assets.

Is White the most valuable Celtic now that Tatum did an achilles?
White > Brown > Tatum > Pritchard > Hauser > KP > Jrue
Is this right in terms of trade value?

I think from a trade perspective yes. Tatum still has more trade value of course.

I'll get killed for it cuz he's so expensive, but I still think Brown returns more than White in a trade. White's great, but JB is just that next level up as a player. Yes he's paid like a supermax guy when he's really just a max guy. But, he's still a max guy who is a #2 (and possibly lesser #1 guy), and White isn't.

How could Tatum have more trade value?
Lillard has become a negative deal because of the same injury, you'd have to assume that Tatum is still positive value but is it really more than White and Brown? The history we have on Achilles injuries shows that quality players under 30 (Cousins, Jennings, Matthews, Ellis) come back worse on average than those over 30 (Durant, Klay, Wilkins, Kobe). Almost like the fact that you get this injury younger is a poorer reflection on your physiology, youth helps you heal but the guys who got these injuries younger seemed to get recurrent issues that cut short their careers.

Zippo chance Boston is trading Jaylen Brown to the Lakers.
JB is on a list with Jo Jo White, John Havlichek, Cedric Maxwell, Larry Bird & Paul Pierce
Celts almost never do business with LAL -- once every decade or less and never for a legend type player
leaving aside the CBA, leaving aside the assets the Lakers have, leaving aside Brown's salary and health
Celts are not trading a Finals MVP to the LA Lakers... could not happen, will not happen
