Charlotte - Philadelphia

Post#1 » by Godaddycurse » Fri Jun 13, 2025 1:54 am

Charlotte trade: Bridges, Green, Okogie, 4, 33, 34
Philadelphia trade: George, 3

Why for Philly: get out of last year of georges deal and still secure Bailey
Why for Charlotte: move up to secure VJ and add george as a mentor for Miller

Fair deal. It's a yes. Charlotte gets VJ and Philly gets Ace.

I think Charlotte just pays futures to move up and PG is left out of it. I'd rather scoop up a future 1st than trade PG for Bridges and Green. They are kinda stuck on this two timeline thing themselves and both timelines are better served by leaving PG out of it and getting more asset value.

I think Charlotte should save futures for when they need to consolidate/try to win. Their caps are pretty clean so they can afford george imo

I like the basic premise of 3 for 4 if the Sixers don't want Edgecombe. Not sure Charlotte needs to pay this much, however. What's the total salary owed to their outgoing pieces vs. George? If it's not that much, maybe they do it.

Maybe, but I don't think Philly bites on that version so if they love their guy enough I think they bite the bullet. And one pick isn't going to hold up Charlotte especially since they can make it next year's. Plus they have extra 1sts already.

Taking on George (even if you're moving those other guys in the process) seems like a lot to move up one spot in the draft.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

I don't think this works. If PHI has a preferred prospect, I doubt they'd willing to take someone else just to get a first. If PHI's preferred prospect is not who we want, there's no sense in trading a first to pick a prospect that will be there at 4.

Seems to me that either the prospect we want will be there at 4 or PHI won't accept a 1st to move down.

EDIT:

CHA gets 3
MIA gets PG, EG, and their 2027 pick returned
PHI gets Robinson, Anderson, Rozier, 4, and 20

Even if Rozier doesn't rebound from last season, I like this a lot for Philly. Does Miami participate?

In that scenario I highly doubt PHI is moving down multiple spots in this draft just for future draft capital, so it's a more complicated trade and I don't think CLT should be engaging in that.

I personally am not totally sold on VJ and would absolutely not give up future 1sts to take him.

It certainly fits their MO. And 20 is worth getting full control of their 27 pick back for other trades I figure? If MIA wants to choose other contracts to match PG that's fine too.

It eliminates their FA plans though

If we're only talking a one-year deferral from Wiggins expiring to George, it might be worth it. Being able to trade (more) future picks and having a massive expiring contract is just about as good as cap space? Although, to use George as the match in a S&T scenario, even going into his final year, seems like a big stretch. Maybe Miami sits this out.

I really don't want Bridges on my team, so no.

Charlottes not nearly close enough to doing anything to be giving up assets to pick between two equal tier prospects. If Philly wants Ace they can just draft him and nobody would bat an eye, whats the point of trading up for that. VJ isn't some franchise changing prize

Reminder that when we evaluate these ideas we have to assume Charlotte has a specific target. Saying I don't love player X and player Y is the same value is cool, but the whole idea of a trade up is to secure a certain player. If you can't use that much imagination, not sure how you contribute to a thread like this?

It depends on how good the offer is. I'm sure the Sixers have a preferred pick at their current slot just like everyone else in the league. The whole reason a trade up is so hard is that you have to dislodge the team coming down. Almost every pick is available for trade if you offer enough and only teams with strong preferences move up. The local guys are saying everyone is throwing cold water on the idea of a trade down for now, but the honest ones are also saying that's still the same answer you would give if you want to do so. We're well into smokescreen season, so I believe basically nothing.

I could easily see just draft pick compensation being the trade down scenario for what it's worth. Morey's not one to be shy about making a deal now to set up another one later. So even if they didn't want picks, they could use them elsewhere.

Charlotte taking on 135 million in future salary, 110 million when PG will be 36 and 37 yrs old. That is a pretty hard sell, I don't think moving up 1 pick in the draft is worth close to that.

I think #4, #33 and #34 are pretty close to the cost to move up 1 spot.

If I am giving up future first round picks I would need to be moving up to 2 for Harper.
