LAL/BKN Draft Day Trade!

Post#1 » by scoobs07 » Fri Jun 13, 2025 6:16 am

LAL gets: Claxton and #26

BKN gets: Kleiber, Vincent, Knecht, and 2031 1st (unprotected)

Why for Lakers?
[*]They get the big that they need.
[*]They could get another big with #26.
[*]Consolidate expiring contracts into a more useful player.

Why for Nets?
[*]They are in a rebuilding period, so not really ideal to have Claxton on the team still, making big bucks.
[*]Get a good young shooter in Knecht, who is cost controlled.
[*]The 2031 unprotected pick is a high-end asset. Luka will be around 31-32 by that time, so trending down. Reaves will be 32-33.
[*]Nets consolidate their draft picks a bit. They have a total of four 1sts and one 2nd.

I don't think Knecht had the value to bring in both Claxton and a late 1st.

Replace Knecht with Vando, Ckaxton doesn't have unprotected 1st value with positive salary being sent.

The trade works fine with out nets sending their pics. They won't trade any of their pics IMO

Although in saying that, not sure Claxton is worth a FRP take the pics out and we good

LAL gets: Claxton

BKN gets: Kleiber, Vincent, Knecht, maybe a second or two
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

More like it, pretty sure Lakers only have one SRP, not sure on that.

With the salary cap set to go up each year the Nets just hold onto Claxton unless there is a first rounder or a player they really like coming back.

The Lakers would have to give up the 2030 Swap and 2031 1st for Claxton alone. I do not see the Nets giving up a pick with Claxton since he is much better than every single player in the Lakers are passing off to BK.

No team is giving up that value for Claxton, which means either the Nets will be lowering their asking price for Claxton or they will retain Claxton.

Value of players don’t change based on who is trading for them. Back to the drawing board.

Come strong LAL, we have faith in you this time. Trust me, you are better than 85% of Reddit. I think we can get there in a hypo this weekend.

The value is fair. I'm not a fan of Knecht, and I don't believe he has any value. The Lakers could keep him if the salaries still work.

I could see the Nets agreeing to sending only one of their 2 late picks, not both.

The Nets would 100% not be giving any picks here. That is for certain.

Come back down to earth, and a deal might be able to get done.

There's no variation in which Claxton is fetching an unprotected FRP from any team. He's just simply not that kind of impact player.

The Claxton market is much bigger this summer than ever.

He will fetch an unprotected 1st if traded. I do not think he will get traded for less nor am I sure they move him unless they draft a C.

BRK has multiple draft picks that could be used to adjust a deal if needed. I acknowledge the 2031 pick is a valuable asset, but I wouldn't completely close the door on it. There is room for negotiation.

Claxton isn't great, but Brooklyn would simply be giving him away for this package. There isn't a thing worth anything going their way. Knecht isn't worth anything.

No from Brooklyn. We'll dole out capspace for other teams' financial relief judiciously, I hope. The summer market should bear better returns than this.
