Fox to Minnesota

Post#1 » by babyjax13 » Mon Jun 16, 2025 3:15 am

MIN trades: Jaden McDaniels, DDV, Leonard Miller
SAS trades: De'Aaron Fox

Minnesota gets a point guard and second scoring option. San Antonio gets a wing who feels like a great fit on their team + some shooting.

Fox/Shannon/Edward/Randle/Gobert

Harper/Castle/McDaniels/Barnes/Wemby

I'm not sure Fox is worth more than McDaniels, though this values them similarly.

Is Minnesota able to justify this with drafting Dillingham and then turning around to Max Fox? That doesn't seem like their M.O.

For the Spurs, I like it, their fans won't. Jaden with Wemby is an incredible defensive combo. Vassell being as good as Spurs fans say, a poor man's Desmond Bane, means their roster balances better. Instantly they become a Top 5 or so defense in the NBA.

I assume the thought would be to let Dillingham come along naturally and when he is clearly ready to start flip Fox. Edwards is good enough that I wouldn't want to waste his prime waiting for a tiny rookie point guard to be amazing.

This is one of those trades where the value is probably slanted towards Minnesota, but it's pretty hard for the fanbase (myself included) to feel comfortable with trading Jaden McDaniels.

If Minnesota isn't trading McDaniels for Durant, why would they trade him for Fox?

Not sure if Minny should be bringing in a guy that's more on-ball than Ant.

Fox isn't going anywhere, at least not for the time being.

This may seem like a ‘crazy like a fox’ move for SAS but it’s an ez pass for Minny.

I’d definitely rather keep McDaniels and hope Ant focuses on his playmaking skills all summer.

Yeah, the reason I liked Durant was to give Ant an easy go-to offense guy after Ant had already tried to create offense in the first half of the shot clock.

An ancillary scorer would be useful in Minnesota as an upgrade to Randle.

Fox is not going anywhere as others have said.
And Wolves are not trading Mcdaniels, they not even trading him in a KD possible trade, why would they do it for a Fox trade?.

My thought was KD is 37 so they didn't want to include a young player.

Spurs obviously say no. Not because the value is no good, but because they made a commitment to Fox.

Yeh nah I think Spurs are fine, they should be targeting someone like Lauri, even if it's a little over pay, with picks? especially since I feel like KD out of the picture, thinking his going to either Wolves/Hou, Lauri should be Spurs target IMO.

Minnesota keeps Ant, Naz, Jaden as they have the past five years. That's the foundation and TC will just build around them - as he has the past four years. Jaden isn't getting traded and Naz will be back.

My immediate thought. Now if Fox extends as part of the trade, one could at least argue they feel better about him over the next 3-4 years than they might KD, but with just one year left, are we sure Fox is a better player than KD? I'm certainly not.

Neither Ant nor Fox have show the ability to be good players off the ball. This is a really bad idea for Minny.

Switch out DDV for Conley. SAS will still need an experienced PG to "educate" the young ones (especially if Paul leaves).

This makes little sense for Minnesota. The biggest issue is the Wolves aren't moving McDaniels for him. The second issue is that I don't see Ant and Fox as being complimentary players, they both need the ball in their hands to be effective. Lastly, Fox will be an expiring contract and I'm not terribly interested in paying him what he will want on his next contract.

seems pretty terrible for the spurs. Mcdaniels seem like a high end role player type guy, which is great but without something additional going to the spurs I don't think this makes sense for them at all.

Fox didn't get traded for nearly as much as he should have been when the kings sent him to the spurs because he dictated exactly where he was willing to sign an extension so the kings were handcuffed as far as what value we could get at the time. Just because his value was depressed by those actions doesn't mean that his value is actually that low.
