I'd don't love Collins to GSW, but it seems pretty clear you started with that as your goal, found some matching money and didn't worry at all if it made any sense for Utah at all. Because it does not. Moody isn't a good contract. Buddy is a fine role player but not really a target for Utah especially not if they get to eat the Moody deal on top of it.

Deals have to make sense for both teams.

Count this Jazz fan in. Moody is solid at 3/37. Only just turned 23, still some upside. Would value him over Buddy in this deal pretty clearly.

Edit: I will say, Im not sure that Utah does it regardless but didnt know Moody was viewed as a contract another team would have to “eat”. I thought he was an asset with his contract. Interesting.

I like Moody and wouldn't mind having him on the Jazz at that salary. Not sure if it's the right move this offseason though.

Having said that I will admit I don’t know Moody enough to know if the Jazz would be interested. If it’s not picks it’s a young player rehabilitation project that Utah would want. So the Jazz fans who have watched enough of Moody would have to chime in whether they think he fits the mold of a young player worth going after.

All I know is he better be worth it because I believe Collins and Sexton/Clarkson combined could yield a unprotected pick to a team like the Bucks and I place a very high value on a unprotected 31st pick. Not because we might even use it, but because if we collect enough of them we can package them for a star in 3-4 years.

So my gut tells me no thanks. But maybe he is the one out of fifty young players worth trading for.

Wouldn't this work better with Kuminga in Hield's place, especially since he's not a fit for Utah but is with the Warriors?
Moody + Kuminga (ST) for J. Collins. In this scenario, Collins accepts his PO. Maybe the Jazz will add some SRP.

I think of Moody as a mostly actualized Cody Williams.

You won't run your offense through him, but he'll hit open shots and attack the closeout at times. Defensively he's decent, can defend 1-3 and do it pretty well, maybe even some smaller modern 4s at times.

okay guess I am wrong on Moody. I thought he was a bit of a disappointment and was barely in the rotation come playoff time. But sounds like his contract is fine to everyone else so I can concede I was way off.

I don't love Collins on the Warriors either; I don't think he's worth hardcapping ourselves at the first apron and I don't think he's worth giving a multiyear contract to. I'd pass on this and use our ammo elsewhere.

Collins definitely brings some useful skills, but my main concerns are (1) he's not a great defender and (2) he's not big enough to be a 5.

Perfect fit (of guys who are somewhat vaguely attainable) would be someone like Brook Lopez IMO.

No, he's not a great defender, but he's been competent. He's played a fair amount at the 5, at least in Utah, despite what the overly simplistic BBREF numbers say. And given that you're one of the biggest advocates for on/off metrics that I've seen on this board (admittedly I'm not), you may find this interesting.
