MEM gets off KCP's contract for two expirings and a second.
LAL acquire KCP after a down year and see if playing with better playmaking might rehabilitate his shooting. He fills a big need as a perimeter defender.

I’ve modified OP to add the Memphis perspective. Not to mention that deals between these two franchises are unlikely given the mutual hate.

Re: MEM/LAL
I think the plan right now is play KCP big minutes next season for Memphis and rather stick with him. But I think if we are looking to flip KCP as part of a bigger/different trade will would be fortunate to find a package like this for KCP. So very fair offer if Mem decides to pivot in another trade which I think is our preferred route right now.

I think if there is any hard feelings, it’s one way. This would be a deal I’d do quite fast and I was wonder what KCP’s value would be as soon as the Bane deal happened.

I completely understand the Lakers rationale here. The irony is that Memphis has the same one. LAL can offer DFS thought to get Memphis’ attention.

Draft will be long done when kcp can be traded right? Dont see any reason for lakers to take on that contract without compensation

He is eligible to be traded alone right now. And I since we are under the cap he can be traded combined with other salaries too right now i believe.

Think far as OP deal, Lakers keep the second , add Dalton is probably closer value. Gabe/Maxi not worth their expiring contracts

Re: MEM/LAL
I think Memphis gets more use out of KCP than the LA duo so I’m not really understanding it. KCP is a good player, that Memphis can use and Memphis has no tax issues during his contract.
Value seems fair. Bad expiring money for useful overpaid player, think LAL owes something. The second is pretty terrible though, so probably should be asking for a distant one over it. And LAL could probably use the dirt cheap contract next season more than Memphis..

Lakers need players to fill out a playoff rotation. Subtracting one to add another does nothing for them. The trade here is predicated on Memphis cutting salary to give JJJ a raise and an extension.

Re: MEM/LAL
The salary relief is enough value for KCP, it's been mentioned multiple times how the price for Bane includes compensation for KCP "negative" value.
I think KCP contract is fine, and worth to trade for, if Memphis are planning on using him they shouldn't trade him, and if they are, Lakers shouldn't overpay to convince them to trade him, certainly I wouldn't trade DFS to get KCP.

But this trade actually takes cap space away from us this offseason. We plan to redo JJJ this year, so saving money next year is not really a need right now. But if we determine moving Kleber or Vincent is easy than moving Cole Anthony’s contract then that is where this trade of KCP could make sense. But I think at this point we rather keep KCP to play and do what it takes to move Cole/Konchar money instead.

Have no intrest in kcp to lakers, but how does it take capspace from memphis? 11 + 11 vs 23? Lakers shouldnt waste their expirings on things like this. Priority must be 2 centers, and they dont have the assets to pay for a vando dump in a center trade

It doesn't sound like Memphis fans want to trade KCP. I think his length of contract, and cost of contract relative to his production is the reason Orlando had to include so many draft picks. Memphis probably would have preferred expiring contracts? So in theory expiring's for KCP + a 1st would makes sense fot hem, if their objective is to clear salary. If not, then just disregard what I said.

KCP contract is 21.6 this next season. 22.5 for laker combo.

Memphis would just have to include one of their less favorable first, and I think it would be good. LAL could use the pick in a trade for a big. I think that would be fine. Also a practical move by Memphis to clear salary.

It just depends on how will plan to proceed to clear enough salary to redo JJJ. ON the court I think we view KCP as a top 7 rotation player if he stays on our roster. Good chance he is our starter as of right now. Sure he likely is overpaid but at the end of the day that doesn’t matter all that much on a 2 year deal. If ihe doesn’t pan out he is an expiring next year and tradable.
Would we have preferred KCP be expiring?… yes. Would we prefer to carry him on the roster and play him over Kleber and Vincent this year? yes. Would we consider breaking him into smaller deals to make it easier to dump money for JJJ? Yes.

Zero chance we include any assets here to LA. We don’t care about clearing money in 2026. We would still have to pay teams to take those contracts for cap space regardless. We would just keep KCP and dump Cole or another contract.
