Robert Williams III aka Timelord has played 26 games the last two seasons. For any team that would be a huge red flag. For New Orleans, it should be an instant nope.

What incentive?

Done for PDX. Actually think Clarkson could be a nice 20mpg bench scorer and it lets us move Simons w/o worrying about scoring as much.

I would swap RWIII for Clarkson w/o incentive FWIW. Both are EC. One plays games.

I don’t get it. I can’t see Pelicans giving up much incentives. Blazers don’t make sense here unless the incentive is worth it to take on a more expensive player at a filled position (unless Blazers fully commit to trading Simons).

You can't just say incentives and not say what they are? How are we supposed to evaluate the value? If it was a few seconds maybe?

I would rather have RW though, if he can play healthy (as always) we can ship him to a contender at the deadline for MORE incentives.

CJ is better than Sexton but we will want incentive for trading Sexton. I do not see a match here, tbh. I would do it for the Indiana 1st, but New Orleans shouldn't.

Your ready for a 3rd season of the RWIII hope and a wish campaign? With the almost certain payoff being a few SRP? I am 100000% just done with him. Great guy, was worth the swing, didnt work out. Move on.

I take the guy in Clarkson who can play, can fill a scoring role when we (hopefully) trade Simons and is a comparable locker room influence (Both Clarkson and RWIII are touted as really good guys).

Obviously this hinges on finding a taker for Simons - but if we do I love this type of trade to fill his role w/ a vet, and a vet at that who has demonstrated a willingness historically to come off the bench. (And ideally add a rookie as well for the long run).

In the context of trading Simons without getting any guards back (unlikely) and Portland getting a second rounder or two for taking on more salary then maybe.

Straight up? I rather have Williams as a part timer big off the bench than Clarkson taking minutes and shots away from younger players. Portland needs to see what Sharpe and Scoot can do this year, it's a make or break year. If they fail and we are bad because they suck then that is fine we are still in a draft and rebuild phase, but the idea of trading away Simons is not to replace him with a similar player, let alone add another volume guard to the mix.

I am all for trading Simons - but PDX has zero scoring off the bench right now. Clarkson for 20mpg would be great in that role.

He also makes like 1M more than RWIII.

Oh you're right, next year its pretty close, was thinking it was more like a 2-3 million difference.

I'm not too worried about bench scoring overall.

One of Simons, Scoot or Sharpe will be coming off the bench
One of Camara, Deni or Grant will be coming off the bench

Also maybe whomever we draft at 11 will be asked to do what they can off the bench this year.

That alone should be fine for a team that shouldn't be trying to win much and is still trying to find its starting core to commit to. If we suck because our bench sucks that is fine with me, but my priorities are probably different than the FO so IDK.

Again as I caveat, if this is in the context of a Simons trade it makes a lot more sense, but Simons+Clarkson is not a pairing I want on this team since neither should be in our long term plans, while Scoot and Sharpe need those responsibilities and opportunities more to see if they can be.

As a final.. I am a huge fan of RW3 and probably am more willing to play out his contract here than others. Love what he brings to the team and the lockerroom. So I freely admit my bias here :)

I understand he is an elite locker room guy and when healthy a great role player. But after playing 26 games in 2 years I am just disillusioned with keeping him. I dont think he has any flip value even if he is healthy somehow this season, outside a SRP or two, as his career is just too injury ridden. IDK, my opinions change daily but at this time I would make the swap (Again, assuming we move Simons).

Clarkson FWIW is as heralded as a locker room guy as RWIII. Tons of good stuff out there about him and his impact on the kids.

Now off the table.

As an aside, I always chuckle when I see a nebulous "incentive" listed. Do I get to pick the incentive?

I don't mind it, it leaves it open to us to discuss incentives. I would do the deal with the 23rd pick.

This is fine for Portland without incentive. Clarkson is just a better bet at a position of greater need than Williams.

I like Sexton for the Pelicans, but, what really is the point of this deal for the Jazz?

I think a lot of his second year DNPs were the FO, not being actually injured fwiw. But I don't mind having him as a back up when someone else eventually gets injured. Someone like the Lakers might do something really crazy and offer a first. If it ends up 2 seconds or they even let him walk, oh well. I don't like Clarkson, i would rather have a rookie get those minutes.
