Kings - Jazz

Post#1 » by LightTheBeam » Fri Jun 20, 2025 5:46 pm

Kings out: LaVine, Spurs 2027 1st, 26 Charlotte 2nd, 27 Charlotte 2nd
Kings in: Sexton, Collins

Utah out: Sexton, Collins
Utah In: LaVine, Spurs 2027 1st, 26 Charlotte 2nd, 27 Charlotte 2nd

Why for Sac? As I always mention, this is the first move. Demar to Dallas next for Naji + Martin + Hardy? Kings move some assets to get better fits and elevate Keon to the starting lineup. We go with a non traditional starting pg, next to a defense 2 who can also handle. It's more of a focus on a fast pace scrappy team.

Sexton/Monk
Keon/Carter
Keegan/Naji
Collins/Martin
Sabonis/JV

Why for Utah? Ainge loves his assets, and they get the best player in the deal.
George/Collier
Lavine/Williams
Bailey?/Sensabaugh
Lauri/Hendricks
Kessler/Flip

Utah should do this. They can sell their fans this is their win-now move, while knowing its a tanking move with more assets picked up.

Don't love the asset management by the Kings. I don't think this does enough for them.

Hmm, I'll stick to evaluating from the Jazz perspective as it came from a Kings fan.

Think the value is good for Utah, but more of a 2nd tier deal. Look if anybody is looking to dump players for more value than this before settling here.

I would be perfectly fine with the deal without 1 or even both 2nds.
I bought a boat.

Dont think Collins and Sabonis can coexist, can they? Jazz fans can correct me, but havent Collins played better as a Center?

For the Jazz, are they ok with getting a Spurs first for both their players? While taking on Lavine? Im on the group that doesnt think Lavine is worthless, and can play winning basketball, but not with this current Jazz roster(which is great for them lol)

Collins is best at power forward but can play center. He seems like an ideal fit with Sabonis.

I would do it and then see if I can flip Lavine for a worst contracts + asset.

I'm not sure who would qualify as a worse contract lol. But that would seem like a good idea. Maybe Milwaukee would give Lillard + Something?

Lillard, George, Beal are immediate thoughts.

I really like this move, I have loved the idea of Collins next to sabonis for a long time. Follow this up with a derozan trade and roll with a roster of.

Sexton/Carter
Monk/Ellis
Keegan/laravia
Collins/?
Sabonis/valanciunas

That is a balanced roster, we should have plenty of scoring from all positions on the floor, good size and length at the forward spots, and solid defense.

By balanced roster do you mean a group of guys who will give up 125ppg?

Collins is a solid defender, sexton isn't a good defender but there aren't a ton of starting quality defensive point guards. This moves Keegan to small forward and increases the amount of time that Ellis and Keegan will spend on the floor together. This improves our defense for sure. Also the kings could use a derozan trade to further improve the defense.

Well first things first, you can't start Monk and Sexton. You would start Keon.

Second, a lot depends on what you get from a DeRozan trade. There's a ton of ways that this can go. But a lot of the rumored deals are the kings looking for more length and size. A deal with Dallas where we get some combo of Naji, Washington, Martin? Now you add 1-2 more defenders.

JVal + Demar for Gafford, Martin, Naji also works. And I've seen a ton of Mavs fans who are good with something like that.

Sabonis/Gafford
Collins/Martin
Keegan/Naji
Keon/Carter
Sexton/Monk

That roster has 6/10 solid defenders, along with 2 passable ones.

I hate to do it.... but it didn't seem like a new thread would have the context. To solve that defensive PG thing:

Jrue to SAC
Sexton to DAL
Klay, OMP to BOS

It works as part of that DDR/Dallas followup.

I feel like referring to Collins as a solid defender is pretty generous of you. Maybe others disagree, but I have him as average at best. Offensively, I get the pairing, but you need a plus, if not elite, defender next to Sabonis to go anywhere.

Despite the narrative that Sabonis is this huge liability defensively, he measures out about average in most if not all metrics. Not saying Collins-Sabonis can be good on that end, but if you have 2 plus defenders in Keegan and Keon Ellis they have a chance to be a respectable defense.

Sabonis isn't a bad defender he actually does well with team defense, he just can't really guard anyone one on one.

The kings also had a very positive defensive rating (102) with a lineup of sabonis, Keegan, DeRozan, monk and Ellis. Would we be better off with a great defender next to sabonis, yes we would. Will we see improvement on the defensive end by simply getting an average defender next to sabonis and moving Keegan to small forward, yeah we will.

I think he is a bit above average. He can switch a bit and provides some secondary rim protection. His DBPM has only been below -1 twice in his career.

I hate this for the Kings and I certainly hope that Perry wasn't brought in to attach draft capital in even more lateral moves. They should take the best offer they can get for DDR from Dallas or Miami. They should see if a team is willing to make a fair offer on Sabonis. The Kings' roster is a train wreck and isn't getting fixed in a single season. They shouldn't take that approach.

The days of thinking the kings are going anywhere are over. Now its just a matter of trying to piece together a fresh exciting team the next two years before we rebuild lol

Oh believe me, most sane kings fans agree with you. But this is just another vivek pawn brought in to do his bidding. He won't stop until he is forced to sell the team.
