Help Sixers move up to #2

Rumor has it the Sixers love Harper. It makes sense because, despite a crowded backcourt, Maxey/McCain are more so SGs in PG bodies whereas Harper is the opposite. A big facilitator like that could really help things click.
Any ideas on how to make it happen? Is there a workable deal between the Spurs/Sixers or would another team have to get involved? Could it be as simple as #3 + future draft stock for #2?

SAS has zero interest in moving down. Especially with what we could offer.

It would take Maxey. I know you didn't want to hear that, but it would have to be a fleecing for them to trade down.

Moving up in the draft is really about a team wanting to move down than a team wanting to move up.

Sure. If SAS wants to go for it and moves #2 in a package for Jaylen Brown. And Brad Stevens is all in on Mazzulla Ball so he doesn't want Dylan Harper he wants Tre or Kon or someone else more 3pt shooting oriented
Spurs trade #2 in a package to Boston.
Boston trades #2 for #3 and some future draft assets.

McCain and #3?
I'd assume Philadelphia would not want to move Maxey and San Antonio would not want to pay both Maxey and Vassell signficant money, but if Philly loves Harper:
Maxey and #3 for Vassell and #2? Maybe a pick swap for San Antonio is needed, but that could potentially be the base of a deal.

I really dont think its possible to make that move honestly. Spurs have the number 2 pick in a hyped to be 2 man top draft(not that other players suck, but the hype over Harper is in a different level to the rest, same way Flagg is in a different level from Harper too). Spurs are in a spot that they dont have to go all in... If Spurs are making any move is about overpaying for a star or accepting an overpay for the 2nd pick. I cant see Philly getting a packaged that is considered an overpay without touching McCain or Maxey(maybe McCain + 3 could not be enough)

This pretty much sums it up. Of course the Sixers would like to move up. But unless SA is significantly lower on Harper or higher on one of Ace/VJ/Tre than the consensus, it would take a preposterous overpay to get SA to listen. I don't think McCain + #3 + all of their future 1sts gets it done.

There's 2 ways I see this being possible.
#1 SA has a trade lined up for a star, and that 3rd team prefers #3 + future assets/or McCain
or
Spurs out: #2 + some combo of Barnes, Keldon, Vassell
Spurs in: #3 + an upgrade at forward
Philly out: #3 + McCain
Philly in: #2
3rd team out: Forward
3rd team in: McCain + Spurs salary pieces
I'd imagine a team like Pelicans here. Murphy for Keldon + McCain? Spurs end up with Fox, Castle, Murphy, #3, Wemby

As others have mentioned, it takes two to tango and even a “fair value” package would likely be a 4 quarters for a dollar type trade and it doesn’t make sense to risk not getting something equal to Harper.
Even if you do say 3, McCain, and 2 firsts, what are the odds that anyone comes close to Harper? Maxey would almost have to be involved in a gross overpay which Philly 100% says no to.

I just posted a deal-I like VJ more than Harper so I love this for SA
#2 for #3/2028 clip pick and 2029 clip swap
SA gets a great future pick and takes VJ at #3

What else are the Pelicans getting? Keldon’s contract for his play offsets the fact that McCain is on a rookie contract. Also, McCain has a whopping 23 NBA games under his belt and is coming off an injury. Pelicans aren’t going to give up a 24 year old on a cheap 4 year contract who looks like he’s going to be a borderline allstar next season from a statistical standpoint.

I agree with the sentiment. Not sure I agree they wouldn't trade him for #3 and all the future picks though.

The main premise here probably centers on SA being one of the worst places in the league rn for a big PG who needs the ball and has some struggles as a shooter. They have Fox of course but also just drafted Castle as a wing who does best creating shots, and both of them are some degree of unreliable shooter. If Harper comes in and is pretty good, both of those guys probably become problem fits. Fit wise a wing who can defend and shoot would be much better, so a guy like Edgecombe would sound nicer to them than most.
Is that enough for them to back off Harper, or at least hesitate enough to consider what else the Sixers could offer? Probably not. But that's the real carrot here, not just that they think Harper is super overrated as a prospect.
EDIT: Also Harper is a really good prospect who seems both pretty high floor and potentially high ceiling, but I don't think he's quite the prospect you have in mind, gsw. He looks the part and plays confident and poised, but he's an average athlete and if he can't improve his shooting or become really sweet at floaters or the midrange there's no reason to think he'll still be a killer NBA PG.

I'm a Sixers fan and love Dylan Harper, but I don't see a deal. IMO, Sixers would either have to give up more than the difference between Harper and VJ/Tre/Ace. Something like #3 and 3+ FRPs and/or McCain. Or the Spurs won't accept the Sixers offer of #3 + 1-2 FRPs.

It's #2 for #3 plus one unprotected future first round pick. Haggle over which year/pick, but the precedent is there (Fultz/Tatum, Luka/Trae). Trades don't have to be complicated.

Pretty bold for you to argue the Spurs should give up two lotto picks for 3 and a guy who'd be in the running to be a sixth man.
Maxey and #3 for Vassell and #2?
I could live with that.

Will Harper or Castle be 6th man?
