Charlotte lands KD in a shocker!

Post#1 » by JustBuzzin » Fri Jun 20, 2025 7:24 pm

Charlotte trades: Bridges/Grant/Green/#4 pick
PHX trades: KD

This may look like a huge gamble by Charlotte, but it's really not. It's a salary relief trade and it covers them in case KD decides to leave after the season. They get off 2 bad contracts with Grant and Green while only losing the #4 pick. That's worth 1 season of KD. Hell if Charlotte has success maybe KD changes his mind mid season and signs long-term with Charlotte.

PHX obviously does this they get Bridges who is from Michigan St and has a relationship with the owner. They shown interest in Bridges in the past. They also get the #4 pick to add a significant rookie to their roster.

Tell me how Charlotte loses in this scenario?

It's either cap space or KD likes his situation and stays. Win/Win.

Phoenix should take this, especially if 4 can be flipped with whoever for a strong win-now center. 4 would be the best level asset that they could probably get for KD. Bridges really sucks but I guess he’s a good basketball player too.

I don’t get why Charlotte would do this though. Ball hasn’t proven he’s capable of staying healthy, KD likely won’t play all 82 games and there isn’t enough to replace production of either guy in event of an injury. In a perfect, all things go right season you probably top out as a first round exit, maybe eeking out a trip to the 2nd round. Odds are you’re struggling to be a play-in team though.
Rest in peace Mamba. There'll never be another Kobe.

Hayward chose to go there for the money. Is Charlotte giving KD a max extension nobody else will?

#4 is a hefty payment for a rental so i assume thats what they would do

i'd happily give him an extra 1-2 year extension (and input on roster decisions because Jeff Peterson is worthless), and the back 9 of our roster really needs to be cleaned out

If #4+Bridges is all it takes, I'm all in

Or
Phx gets Claxton and Bridges and 19
Cha gets kd and clowney and 26
Bkn gets green, grant, 4
Bkn gets another top 8 pick. Cha gets kd and clowney for quality depth. Phx gets good center and forward.
Bkn could send green and grant to Miami for expiring rozier and filler also.

I don't have Claxton worth anything near this

That and we also cut a lot of salary throwing them Grant and Green to match salary.

If we keep Nurkic that's another 18mil on top of the 50+mil if KD opts out.

You looking at 70mil in expirings. We can get 3 quality players in FA with that kind of money.

Nobody is paying this much to get Nic Claxton. Nic Claxton is a quality Center that the Suns need, but the Nets very likely get cut out if they're not willing attach more to Nic Claxton besides a mediocre 1st round pick in this year's draft if the Suns somehow were able to get a top 4 pick(extremely unlikely by the way).

I don't see a reason for the Hornets to be doing this. If the Hornets showed a lot of promise and were actually just a older Kevin Durant from being true contenders, then maybe a overpay of this extent may be justified. However that's simply not the case. I don't even think Hornets makes the playoffs with him. The team a lot of cultures issues and their best players already have serious injury concerns.Kevin Durant will blocks this trade from happening anyway as he has done with the Timberwolves, even if the Hornets for some reason were willing to do this.

But surely he wants to play with LaMelo Ball; I mean he wanted to play with Kyrie in Brooklyn.

This would be such a short sighted, horrible decision for Charlotte to make.

Or (edited repost since posted it wrong).
Phx gets Claxton, Bridges and 19
Cha gets CamJ, kd, clowney and 26
Bkn gets green, grant, nurkic, 4
Bkn gets another top 8 pick. Cha gets kd and clowney for quality depth plus cam for another shooting wing. Phx gets good center and forward.
Bkn could add 27 or a Knick pick if needed - just say where.

Bkn could send green and grant to Miami for expiring rozier and filler also.

Bridges is getting you 20-7 on a contract that will drop to $25M next year and to $23M the following season ; Grant is basically on an MLE contract and both guys' contracts expire in '27. Josh Green is overpaid and underproductive relative to his contract (also ends in '27), but his ~MLE deal isn't stopping Charlotte from doing anything.

Charlotte is not a FA destination and nowhere close to the tax or any apron, so why give up the 4th pick in a good draft to simply clear the books one year sooner when what Charlotte needs most is young talent?

PHX would be foolish to turn this down.

And if CHA is offering a two year max extension, Durant would be foolish to turn that down, as well.

Puts the Hornets back on the map.

For CHA: this is either the stupidest idea, or the biggest stroke of genius.

What are we actually giving up in value?

The #4 pick. People around the league don't care for Miles Bridges.

I like the fit Melo never played with a player of KD's caliber. Add Miller to the mix and you got a nice trio that actually fits Melo/Miller/KD. In a weak East it's no telling how good they can be. If we win KD stays if not we got a lot of cap space to rebuild the team in FA.

Yes, the 4th pick is way more valuable than Durant.

Its a nice trio on paper but my worry is that its an extremely fragile big 3. Any chance they all play more than 65 games this year and be healthy at the end of the year? If so, then they could be pretty good.
