OKC/Denver Draft pick swaps

Post#1 » by youngthegiant » Sat Jun 21, 2025 2:59 am

Denver Trades: 2031 1st rd pick unprotected

OKC Trades: #24, Denver's 2027 and 2029 1st rd picks(both currently top 5 protected)

Why: OKC moves some less valuable picks for an unprotected pick from Denver. Similar to what Phoenix did with their pick, turning it into 3 1sts. Denver gets a little more trade flexibility. If taking #24 is too much Denver could also take some 2nd rounders back, but main idea is for them to get their 2027 and 2029 1sts.

Probably depends on if there are some players they like in that range, but I think Denver says yes to this. Gets them another rookie scale player to help them now for cheap, and 2 more to either hold on to or use as addition trade assets. I get the rationale for OKC and a 2031 Denver pick could be juicy, but I think having extra picks at the end of the decade will be valuable for them when their current core gets expensive and they need cheap role players to fill the roster

No thanks..looks like an overpay from OKC perspective. Those Nuggets picks are only top 5 protected so they have a ton of value and you basically help the nuggets to potentially have a better team in 2031. No reason to do this.

Curious if you would do #15 and some 2nds if Denver drops protections on those picks.

guess not. #24 and some 2nds probably which might not be enough for Denver.

I'm also not sure OKC wants to help Denver right now. We might not win the championship and Denver will be one of biggest opponents in the next years so I don't think it's smart to help Denver short term.

Don’t see OKC having much interest in that. But could see 24 for a protected future swap.

Denver should be thrilled if OKC passes, could see the '31 being juicy

15, 24, 2027 DEN 1st top 5 prot, 2029 DEN 1st top 5 prot

For

2030 DEN 1st unp, 2031 DEN swap, 2032 DEN 1st unp

I think with this year’s picks illegal to agree to in this league year though…

It’s tough.
1-5 protection means if Denver want to tank they can tank to worst record and keep their pick.

Unprotected means even if they are not a good team, there’s no reason to play to lose so might not be better than 5th unless lotto balls for their way.

I give up 24 and negotiate from there. 15 is off limits.
