Milwaukee - Toronto

Post#1 » by Godaddycurse » Sat Jun 21, 2025 5:28 pm

Assumption: Toronto drafts a wing or guard with its FRP
Credit again to jayjaysee

Milwaukee trade: Brolo (3 yr/60M 1st year guaranteed only), Connaughton
Toronto trade: RJ

Why for Milwaukee: add scoring and secondary playmaking help. Barrett's contract lines up to expire alongside kuzma and dame for them to reset in FA in 2 yrs.
Why for Toronto: fill back up C hole w/ a veteran stretch 5 and get salary flexibility (avoids tax) in 26-27
Why for Brolo: $$$

Add 2nd(s) as needed

RJ had a career year last season. This is a terrible trade.

would be tricky to fill out the rest of the roster without running into the apron tho

any way you could take pat?

I like it for both sides.

Think Toronto owes the seconds (or second if it’s 39), but Milwaukee is the right desperate team for RJ so I’m not sure.

Toronto getting to always have Poeltl/Brolo on the court will help raise the floor for the team

This is bad, even for you. I get that you always short Raptors players to not seem like a Homer but doing the opposite is just as lame.

Ideally i would have milwaukee kick in a few 2nds to dump Connaughton elsewhere but i like the idea of a barrett for brolo swap to clear the books a bit next year to duck the tax.

I think its a big plus on court if we draft a wing/guard. We were abysmal in non poeltl minutes and won't want to go into tax to fill back up 5 hole

I don't get this RJ love, he's good but not great. Like if Toronto grabs a promising young wing at 9 I don't see how you say getting Lopez whose one of the better stretch bigs who can also defend is horrible. Sure Pat Connaughton isn't great but he's decent in spurts I really like this team after

PG: Quickley/Shead/Lawson
SG: Ochai/Gradey/Walter
SF: Ingram/Connaughton/Battle
PF:Barnes/Mogbo/Boucher (cheap)
C: Poeltl/Lopez/Chomche

That's without the picks you take the BPA

I like RJ and would rather keep the hometown guy. I counter with Gradley and boucher for brolo, no Pat. Maybe some draft capital involved.

López is a free agent right? He’d have to agree to this contract for it to even happen. I’m imagining at his age he’d look for more security in a contract, like the 3yr-30Ms Wash gave Valunciunas last offseason.

That’s ignoring the fact that Barrett is way more valuable than Lopez, Toronto doesn’t even pick up the phone.

JV was 31 or so when he signed his deal. Brolo is 37... Dont think he gets a 3 yr deal from anyone

He definitely doesn't always short Raptors players. And he overvalued RJ here. :D

But more importantly we can disagree with value without implying this sort of thing. godaddy's rep is here is immaculate.

I imagine he'd look at $20M guaranteed in the first yead and take it. With Barnes and Ingram already on the roster, Barrett should not be more valuable to the Raptors than one of the few stretch 5s in the NBA. Of course this is true of the Bucks with their current roster which is why I see the Bucks passing on the extra money here.

I will never rule out a player signing for the most money. But I bet BroLo can lock up $20M elsewhere while having a bigger role on a more competitive team. I think Toronto probably needs to guarantee some or all of a 2nd year. Right now all the upside is Toronto's.

Brooklyn/Detroit wouldnt do that with their capspace.
Other teams that offer that has to give Milwaukee something they like more than RJ to participate in a S&T. Nobody is offering a 1st for Brolo.

Plenty of teams who need a center/veteran leadership. Hawks feel like a pretty obvious choice with a big TPE so they don't have to send back a player if the Bucks don't want any of the guys they move but can provide them a TPE to do their own shopping with. Charlotte should absolutely place a call. Lakers should be extremely interested. I wouldn't rule out Brooklyn. Good vet, could be flippable at the deadline. Spurs should have interest. Pacers if they decide they can't/won't pay Turner.

Those are just off the top of my head. Now I can't speak to how much the Bucks would value RJ. They do need offense even if its at or below league efficiency.

I highly doubt BroLo gets double digit offers.
Defense wins draft lotteries!

Would Toronto pay him 20 mill to back up Poetl? If they want shooting at the 5, there are probably gonna be cheaper options than paying a 37 year old, just to give away Barrett.

I agree Toronto can use spacing, but idk if López is the answer

I have that contract as a way to get off of Barrett's money and a useful trade chip at the deadline as it won't be guaranteed the following season.
