What does Indy do this summer?

Post#1 » by kds92 » Mon Jun 23, 2025 1:15 am

Assuming Hali is out for most or all of next season, what should Indy do?

Re-sign Turner and/or Obi? Trade Siakam? Run it back and try for the play-in while letting the young guys develop?

Hell of a trade by them to get their pick back. I'd be really suspicious if I was New Orleans.

If I were their GM, nothing will change. Promote from within. They have enough guard depth to keep float until Hali returns.

Hali likely won't be back during the 2025-2026 season.

No reason to be suspicious, but yes, very good for Indiana to have it.

Why even bother doing anything? The championship's going to the team with the strongest/luckiest Achilles tendons anyway.

Probably sell obi to dodge the tax
Resign turner
Be competitive but likely will still have a mid pick with hali being out all next year. Develop the kids more

I don't think they will resign Turner now. Maybe a sign and trade. Probably keep Obi.

Imo they shouldn’t let the Hali injury affect their long term plans. Definitely bring back Turner.

I think it was absolutely a case where they saw Hali's calf injury was to his Achilles and if he played on it he risked tearing it, and that's why they wanted to make the trade while their team was playing in the Finals.

To me? This likely only affects Obi. You’d have a year to develop Walker/Furphy in some extra minutes and avoid the tax another year. You still desperately need a center.

lol. It was an injury to the calf. An Achilles injury after playing through a calf is a risk. As we saw with Durant and others previously.

No need for conspiracy theories. It was playing through game 7. If Indy hadn’t bombed game 7, Indy would’ve (hypothetically) won in 6 and no injury.

Sadly this is true, it takes about a year to recover. We'll not likely see him play till October of 2026.

If the Pacers thought he had a risk to tear or rupture his Achilles he would not have plaid in game 6 or 7.

Stay the course but dodge the tax. They still have room for internal improvement and nobody is facing age-related decline yet.

I might still have tried to risk it.

Maybe try and get a young backup PG or a Dennis Schroeder level guy to hold down the backcourt… But mostly run it back.

I agree, you never know if or when you will get back. That said, I would assume Indiana felt comfortable with him playing or they would not have let him.
