PHX - POR Trade

Post#1 » by rambo_ortega » Mon Jun 23, 2025 5:09 pm

Blazers Get:
Bradley Beal

I personally think this is the perfect fit for both sides. Beal can get his touches alongside a dynamic PG, wing defenders and solid bigs.

Simons/Beal/Sharpe/Advija/Ayton
Scoot/Thybulle/Camara/Murray/Clingan

Suns Get:
Jerami Grant
Robert Williams III

They get solid help down low and balance their roster

Guys you have to give reasons for Beal because he has a NTC. Every party who has agency needs reasons provided.

Now this deal has been discussed already at length in the Beal thread so OP, you might want to go see the thoughts there as well.

I’ll share my thoughts that were similar to that Beal thread.

I’m fine with Beal to Portland on 2 conditions:
(1) Portland needs compensated. The salary swaps are decent because they are shorter, but that NTC can really lock Beal in, so getting stuck with limited chances to move him is a huge negative. Grant may have longer left, but Blazers can move him without him signing off if need be. Additionally, I think Grant staying on the Blazers player wise is fine as he can be a very good backup that can start when needed (injury situations), which reduces any desperation to move him. A first in the back half of any draft is fine in my books. Without compensation, I’ll keep Grant as a backup forward over having Beal take minutes away from Sharpe’s development at SG.

(2) An immediate plan to move Simons needs to be in play. There is no room for Beal/Simons/Sharpe on one roster. Beal will take most or all of Simon’s’ minutes, save for Sharpe needing a little bump in minutes.

As for Beal and his NTC:
He would have to view the Blazers as a place he can get his touches, which I think he would barring another decrease in productivity. Beal likewise would need to hear that the plan is for Simons (or Sharpe if Blazers have something bigger lined up) to leave. Beal likely sees the writing on the wall in Phoenix, contenders won’t touch him, so he may see Portland as a chance to get big minutes and touches on a team not outright tanking. I doubt Portland promises him a starting position, but I think they can agree on minutes and a chance to fight for starting.

No.
If I'm Portland, I don't trade Grant's unwanted contract for Beal's unwanted contract. IMO, it would take a fair amount of additional 'incentive' for Portland to agree.

Also, I highly doubt that Beal would agree... so it makes the deal DOA.

Why do you think Beal wouldn't agree? Portland looks like a better situation than Phoenix IMO. I think he would agree to leave that dumpster fire for quite a few places honestly. Especially after they just traded for his replacement in the starting lineup.

It’s a short list of teams that will take Beal without real incentive.

That is assuming he would not veto the trade outright, which seems likely.

I was hoping and expecting this to be one of the first replies. You did not disappoint. Jroy have it all.

Yeah. I'm not sure there's a team that:

1) Would take Beal without requiring Phoenix to kick in a significant amount of incentive; and
2) Beal would accept a trade to

It's possible I suppose, but everything Beal has said and done has actually indicated the exact opposite.

I don't follow Bradley Beal news that closely, so I believe you. I guess some guys just don't want to spend the final years of their careers bouncing around.

I would need Simons already out of town and that #29 pick included.

But I am a proponent of Beal for Grant + RWIII - just would need the above caveats met. I am optimistic that Beal as a 'super 6th man' could be a positive fit in Portland. He can play either guard spot (Granted you want Deni on the floor if Beal is at PG to ensure enough playmaking). He is still a deadeye shooter. I would hope his usage can remain in the 20-22% range w/ his 3PTar rising to 40-45%. By all metrics he is a better defender than Simons, by a decent margin too.

I am sure he wouldnt waive the NTC but if he did I am actually liking his fit in PDX short term.
