CHA/UTA

Post#1 » by HornetJail » Tue Jun 24, 2025 12:59 am

Charlotte trades #4, Bridges, Nurkic, Green, Grant Williams, Salaun
Utah trades Lauri, Collins, Sexton

Utah gets to fully bottom out for the next couple years and adds another top pick, guaranteeing them one of the Ace/VJ/Tre tier of wing players. All the Hornets players expire in 2027 except Nurkic (2026) and Salaun (depends on whether you accept his team options or not), and no trade value is being assigned to any incoming player here.

Charlotte adds two big rotation pieces at important places... Lauri a nice stretch 4 who has proven to be able to increase his volume to star levels when called upon. Sexton a combo guard who can survive at point when LaMelo is off the floor. Both big needs for this Hornets team. The swap from Bridges to Collins is lateral at best, but more for Mark Williams insurance than anything. Bridges/Collins ideally serve the same purpose as PFs but in a pinch, Charlotte needs a player that is more capable of flexing up to center than Bridges who is more capable of flexing to a wing position.

Main healthy rotation:
Melo/Miller/Lauri/Collins/Mark + Sexton/Mann/Okogie/Diabate
LaMelo hurt:
Sexton/Miller/Lauri/Collins/Mark + Mann/NSJ/Okogie/Diabate
Mark Williams hurt:
Melo/Sexton/Miller/Lauri/Collins + Mann/NSJ/Okogie/Diabate
Lauri hurt:
Melo/Sexton/Miller/Collins/Mark + Mann/NSJ/Okogie/Diabate
both LaMelo and Mark hurt:
Sexton/Mann/Miller/Lauri/Collins + NSJ/Okogie/Jeffries/Diabate

you get the point, this trade safeguards the Hornets from devolving into a straight up D-League team any time an injury occurs.

This is a overpay for Lauri.

Bridges might not have value around the league, but he gives you similar production as Lauri and we have to trade the #4 pick. Nah I'm good on this one.

I’d do this.

Done. I think we owe value, my guess is something like 21 and a future 1st to balance.

I wanted to include #21 in here as well, but as mentioned in another thread, there's definitely an Ainge tax to pay here

Maybe. I'm not convinced the 'Ainge tax' will continue to exist. This was my version of the same deal, minus the inclusion of Sexton/Collins (which I am fine with): viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2465004

I think the #4 is far more valuable than anything coming back. Lauri is a negative all things considering

ah, I missed this. similar, in that I would easily send out of those picks to be able to acquire Collins+Sexton for our slop

Lauri is arguably a negative contract. He can't bring back anything like the #4 pick.

I'd remove Collins and Grant Williams to give CHO cap flexibility
UTA should send #21 and 27 LAL 1st
But I like the dirction for both teams
