Siakam To Charlotte

This came up in my Indy Teardown thread so I figure it deserves its own. IF Indy decided to punt this upcoming season and sell off our veterans to do a mini-tank for a year before Haliburton comes back... Siakam to Charlotte. Got positive reception from the Charlotte people in that thread.

Pacers trade: Siakam, Toppin

Hornets trade: Bridges, Nurkic, G. Williams, #4

Why for Pacers: get the best possible draft asset for Siakam. Draft a young guy. Lost some long-term salary.

Why for Charlotte: Get a massive upgrade from the current front court crew of bozos to Siakam and Toppin. Actually compete with Ball/Green/Miller/Siakam/Williams

Never happen but love it all for Charlotte except for Josh Green at SG. Out indefinitely with shoulder surgery. He belongs on the bench.

If Indy was to move Siakim it would be with his blessing and to a contender. It is how the front office operates.

First if we were to move Siakim we would probably keep Obi as the back up PF behind Walker.

Second you can expect push back on Bridges from other Pacer fans. They don't like him.

Lastly if Siakim was to be moved it would probably to a contender. Indy would probably put several packages together among contending teams and let Siakim choose where wants to go.

like this more than the Lauri option, but I doubt it's offered by the Pacers. just run it back and see how far TJ and an MLE level PG get you

(it'll be further than you think imo)

It is? Lots of teams have gone on deep runs, even won titles, and made changes they thought improved them. Boston kept knocking on the door and kept upgrading around their core 2 and if their posters here are right are about to start kicking those final pieces back off the roster. Haven't heard you call that lame but the motivation is the exact same.

You think OP's packages improves Indiana? Boston's motivation is to duck 2nd apron, Indiana fans deserve to keep this team intact to make another run in 2 yrs. They wont even be in the tax if they dump toppins

I don't think there is any chance Indiana is trading Siakam. I don't support it. But I think if they traded him to reset because they felt it best for the team, I don't think its lame. I mean they traded for him, made him a featured player, and gave him the contract the Raptors wouldn't. I don't see any of that as lame.

As is, without dumping Obi, Indy won’t have the MLE. Not even the taxpayer MLE. Likely around $12m into the tax before possibly using any exceptions.

i think it's lame decision to decide to reset now when their core was so successful, is young and they are not in tax.

But why would Siakam be traded? He’s awesome. I’m sure Indy wants to keep him as long as possible

Char shouldn't do this-#4 has too much value for a young team

Indy should trade Obi (Chi/BRK for cap space?) and run it back, getting Walker some run

I don't see the Pacers blowing it up just because they have a gap year coming up.

Does anyone think Indy doesn’t go .500 next season? In this eastern conference they should still be targeting a top 6 seed.

Turner (probably)
Siakam
Nesmith
Mathurin
Nembhard

If the team is 15 games below .500 in January maybe it’s time to consider a trade.

That line-up clearly lacks a #1 option without Hali which will cap its post-season success -- but the last time Siakam was the best player on a good, well-balanced and deep team that lacked a true #1 option was the 2019-2020 Raptors who went 53-19 in the COVID-shortened season, losing in the ECSF in 7

I think that Indy team is easily a .500 team, and with Indy's bench and decent health luck, probably 50+ wins in the RS and winning a round in the playoffs. Not a contender though -- you need Hali back healthy for that.

Two years is a long way off. Siakam is 31 and might be better for him to get with a team that can make a run in 2026. Which team would that be? Clearly not Charlotte. The problem is other than the Spurs who might want to jump start their next season, lost out on KD (maybe) the contenders in the West have no picks to trade.

Brooklyn is not a contender but they are a premier market and they have a bunch of picks.

You really want to resign Turner go into the tax and finish 6th? Get beat in the first round.

The only way they are not in the tax next season is if they don't sign Turner. Sure they have Nembhard and TJ but they have no replacement for Tyrese. If would be financial insanity to pay tax, lose out on millions of dollars in rebate and finish 6-8th. Get beat in the first round.

I don't think the Pacers are trading any of their rotation players but I think we owe Siakam the courtesy of asking him if he wants to be traded. I think he'll say no and that's that. I know some want to trade Obi but I wouldn't and I certainly wouldn't want him on an Eastern Conference team,

I can see us making a move for a backup center if iJax is not willing to sign a rehab deal, but I hope we get one at 54 (or trade a future 2nd Thursday to move up for one),
