Re: Shams: Jrue for Simons
Huh. That’s a bit surprising. I guess Portland doesn’t like Simons’ contract either, but it’s still odd.
Lolz, spotrac won’t load, lots of people checking.

Re: Shams: Jrue for Simons
Odd. I thought Boston would go for more money savings or at least a winning player. Value is ok, direction is dubious for Boston. For Portland, I like having an adult in the room and should be a good bridge player.
Simons I guess can carry the offense while Tatum is out.

Portland is a team that drafted 3 straight years in the lottery and as high as #2 with improved growth and development for 3 straight years.
I have been a proponent of them adding pieces, whether it be a big piece who truly puts them in contender status, or trading a non-core piece for an upgrade. In this situation, they trade a non-core piece for a perfect culture fit and player who is going to help win.
Value is fine, Simons isn't a sought-after commodity.

Is Holiday coming off the bench behind Scoot (or sharpe)? if so kind of expensive for a 6th man

I was hoping and expecting this to be one of the first replies. You did not disappoint. Jroy have it all.

Re: Shams: Jrue for Simons
I love this for POR on the court. The talking Jrue being in decline is so grossly overstated. He’s still awesome.
That being said, they still suck as a team in the ultra competitive west and now have both Jrue and Grant on the books long term. Just feels like a terrible direction for them.
On the Boston end, seems like a great first step. Simons is a decent expiring player and they got some 2nds. Celtics now need to clear about $19.3M to duck the 2nd apron, but the deals of Simons/Porzingis both look very movable to shed incremental salary and Hauser seems very “dumpable”. They seem well on their way to resolving their financial issues without giving up any future 1sts unless maybe if they want to go ultra aggressive and duck the tax altogether.

Sometimes teams do things for developmental reasons but Jrue is still so massively better than those guys on the court that it defies logic to do that.

Re: Shams: Jrue for Simons
Kind of love PDX picking Jrue to try and get Scoot to grow up and develop. What a great example to put him next to.
Also, Portland can run some CRAZY defensive lineups with Jrue, Camara, Avdija, Rob, etc.
If Boston can send Hauser into someone’s exception/cap, they basically clear a ton of salary now, and going forward.

Jrue is 3/104.4, Simons is 1/27.7. I thought Boston would want to save more this year, but getting off the old Jrue years is a win, I’d guess.

I also think Portland will be in the play-in. Better than Phoenix, Utah and New Orleans. In a big group with Sacramento, San Antonio, Dallas, Memphis and Golden State.
Teams will make moves and potentially move up and out of the tier I have Portland in.

Gotta start Jrue and make the young guys earn it? Still got a chance to play Jrue next to Scoot/Sharpe for solid minutes, too.

Anyone have a solid idea on why Portland did this? Can’t be willing to pay this much just for a Scoot mentor right?

Jrue and his contract for the next few years was also going to be an issue for the new Celtics owners.
Hoping Jrue stars for Portland.
I think Joe Mazz will get the best out of Simon's.
Very happy about this deal

Feels like whichever team is the healthiest will come out of this bloodbath.
