OKC/MIL

Mil out: Pat, ‘31 1st (unprotected)
Mil in: Joe, 15, 24

Okc out: Joe, 15, 24
Okc in: Pat, ‘31 1st (unprotected)

Why for Mil?
Get draft picks to use and help the team now while also upgrading from Pat to Joe. Give up a distant, high variance asset to do so.

Why for Okc?
Get an unprotected high variance 1st, and set it further back since they have so many coming over the next two years. Get an expiring salary back to help you avoid the 2nd apron in 2 off-seasons once the Jalen and Chet extensions kick in.

Mil needs to send a few of their vet mins out. Which they should. No reason to trigger a first apron hard cap… Probably should go to a third team with some open roster spots so OKC can keep their tax space for whatever trade they do using Connaughton/Dieng.

I think OKC can do this deal and wait for Giannis to decline. They don’t need more picks the next couple years and can still look to trade lesser pieces to fill needs as they arise.

The value looks reasonable to me, though I would hate doing that if I was a Milwaukee fan. Especially if the team is getting Joe back and limiting the follow up trade’s matching salaries. In order to flip 15 and 34, you need matching salaries that Milwaukee doesn’t really have.

To me this would need to be Coby White to Milwaukee, Connaughton and distant unprotected to OKC, Joe, 15 and 24 to Chicago.. or some other larger deal aggravating Connaughton and Kuzma.

Yeah, I thought the picks were to be used in follow up deals to add talent around Giannis.

If the idea is just to draft at 15 and 24 and hope they work out? That seems worse for Milwaukee

I think the expectation in Milwaukee right now is that the NTMLE will be used, so that hard cap at the first apron will already be triggered.

I’m sure most other Milwaukee fans would prefer putting protections on the pick, and if that could be done, great, but I’m not losing sleep over it.

As for the picks, Milwaukee could use them in a larger deal, like you laid out, or actually draft with them. I think a lot of Milwaukee fans would be squeamish over the latter since Horst has such a poor draft record, but, with the former, think this deal would open up the trade possibilities since not every team values a distant first the same way.

Since the pick can roll over, I’d try and see if Presti agrees to top 6 in 2031, top 2 in 2032? assuming same lottery rules at that point, at least you can tank in 2031 and guarantee keep your pick..

Not sure how much that changes for OKC side. Should still be worth pick 15?

Could expend it and offer Nets Kuzma/15 for Johnson/36

I might be in the minority for Milwaukee fans, but I’d much rather leave the pick unprotected to maximize the return now. That doesn’t mean I’d unprotected the pick if the value doesn’t seem right, but I would certainly look for all opportunities first.

Trying to gauge what that maximized value could be without Joe being the target, do you think OKC would have interest in 15+24+ the worst first from 2026? That would probably be Houston or the clippers.

If all it would be is 15+24 plus some 2nds or something, then I think protecting the pick slightly for 15+24 would make sense.

Trying to get a better sense of where the value is.

Interesting idea from OP. I'd consider it (or Jay's follow-up).

I don't think I'd do 3 for 1 for the MIL pick? But I'm not for sure there.

No thanks. 31 1st leaves only if we get a starting level player.

Why the actual **** would we want 2 1sts this year????

Nets would be the team to target in you want multiple picks in this year draft .
