Atlanta takes the two players into its trade exceptions.

Why for ATL: Get a career 40% 3-point shooter virtually for free, filling the roster hole left when Bogdanovic was traded, and a look at Dieng in the one year remaining on his contract.

Why for OKC: Clear two roster spots and a bunch of salary, making room for this year's lottery pick (potentially using #24 to move up further) and still leaving roster flexibility.

My take here is that Joe is worth more than moving up two spots in the middle of the draft plus a second that's not likely to be terribly valuable, but that Dieng's stock is low enough for OKC to have to give some of that value back to move him.

I would do that deal as OKC . I see Joe as positive but main reason I’m doing this is to open up 2 roster spot and take on the 2 TPE (albeit both are small)

Easy yes for ATL. Going from #13 to #15 and getting Joe and Dieng in the process is a no brainer.

Not sure why OKC would ever agree to this. Joe is greater than anyone they can grab at #13. Might as well just hang onto Joe and trade out of the draft if roster space is the issue.

Interesting. As ATL, would you be open to this deal if it included a well-protected future first, rather than the Cleveland 2nd - say 2030 lottery-protected, 2031 lottery-protected, or 2031 CLE 2nd if neither of the 1st's conveyed?

OKC do this cause we really like someone at #13 or it’s easier for us to move up from #13 compared to #15.

Dieng have minimal value to us already ( protected second given he’s an expiring) and we remain confident we can make up Joe’s minutes elsewhere.

Just for the fun of it , if Presti is owed some small value elsewhere he probably asked for a different second in a different year but not a dealbreaker of a deal framework.

I agree with this take. OKC is moving up for someone or making it easier to go even higher. The additional roster spots gives them even more incentive.

Which is why I wouldn't say it's an easy yes for Atlanta. We really have no need to see what Dieng is. Would I still do the deal? Yes. Picking up Joe and only dropping 2 spots is a worthy deal. We can absorb them into our TPE as well. I'd imagine with OKC approaching the aprons, they would like to start shedding future money. Joe isn't putting a lot of strain on their cap, but clearing 12 mill in AAV, would go a long way for them(Chet and J Dub extensions).

If Atlanta has the tax space to do this, keep Caris and go find a useful backup center for when KP is out.. I like this for both sides. And at 15 you can probably get that backup play maker or center so maybe not needed?

It’s the right two guys to move on from for OKC imo.

If OKC was not getting cap space back, I think they’d be owed another second or two. But opening the MLE is the extra value imo.

And in case anyone believes OKC is owe a tad more value, don’t worry about it. Once Presti is locked in to a target in a draft, he’s ok to pay slightly more for it .

Case in point . Trade up for Cason and grab bag of first to get Dieng.

You can have Dillon Jones too if you want. Though I doubt Presti agrees.

I disagree with the other OKC posters. I wouldn't move a rotational sg on a good contract to move up 2 spots. If that's the best return for Joe then keep him on the roster and use 24 to move up.
