Excellent deal imo, thought he'd get $30M+ AAV. Guessing he wanted to be able to re-enter FA next year with more teams having space, Houston has an easy off ramp if Reed is what they think he is

Seems like a good number.

It should definitely help them resigning their own players on rookie scale contracts.

Wow, respect FVV for this, he gains nothing from this except ability to play for a better team.

I thought 2/60 was going to be the deal. So great for the Rockets. POs suck but fine with it here.

To be fair the Rockets had all the leverage. Where was he going to go?

Rockets having the full mle while keeping Fred and Adams and trading for KD is not what I expected to happen

Forgot it was a team option, thought it was a PO, makes sense now.

Houston is having one hell of an offseason. They got Durant without breaking their asset bank (and got rid of a questionable extension in the process) plus they have now resigned two key veterans to reasonable deals.

Good for them.

This was pretty much always the plan, right? It's not like FVV was ever worth 40M a year, Houston just paid him a premium to steal him from Toronto.

I expect us to avoid luxury tax, to not start the repeater tax. Don’t think we will use the full MLE, perhaps we can use a portion of it that is still higher than the TP-MLE though (a salary starting at 8-10 mill ish).

It depends on if we sign older vet minimums, and or perhaps option Holiday (he was big for us last year). Also that report that we are looking trade back into the draft for a 1st round prospect would mess with the numbers if true.

I think if the player is good enough they should absolutely not shy away from the tax, they could be real contenders now, depends on who is available

The important thing was him taking a specific pay cut for the team to get their full MLE to use. This deal is probably a bit lower than Fred's actual market value.

I got them at $171,914,811 for 10 guys (assuming they waive Landale and decline the TO on Holiday). So that puts them at about $16M below the tax line. I am thinking that they will want to avoid the luxury tax this year (and probably always right? Has Fertita ever paid luxury tax?) They'll need to fill out the rest of the roster so can't quite use the full mle, but a good chunk of it.

I have this as good deal for both. If the Rockets, weren't picking up the option, they weren't picking up the option. FVV either was signing with the Nets or Klutch was scrambling trying to find a S&T. FVV can hit the market healthy next summer, or if he's injured, he can opt in.

I was going to say this as well - they are built to win right now, so no need to hold back. They can deal with repeater tax later. Here is the real question though - is Tilman Fertita willing to pay the luxury tax for a contender? History says no.

This seems unnecessarily generous by FVV assuming they planned it out ahead of time.
