Find Charlotte a veteran backup PG/playmaker
Charlotte's single biggest weakness over the last few years has been finding offense when LaMelo is off the floor. Bad backup PGs that can't handle distributing for a 2nd unit, let alone being forced into a starting lineup. Player development is actively getting hurt when you have backup PGs as bad as Charlotte has the last few years, and Charlotte should not risk that scenario with 4 rookies all potentially vying for playing time this season.
i think the obvious move would be dangling a 1-2 year offer at the MLE to Chris Paul or Tyus Jones, but I would also want to look long and hard at someone more suited to stepping into a starting role for an extended time if needed, and providing some scoring in the process.
Charlotte won't be breaking the bank on this, as this roster is extremely far away from being competitive, but the late 2026 PHX/WAS/ORL/MEM 1st, late 2029 CLE/UTA/MIN 1st, along with our salary filler pieces (Green/Nurkic/Grant Williams/Micic) should be on the table. A much better player would fetch MIA or DAL's 2027 1st, but they'd need to be actually really good, and a long-term piece.

Re: Find Charlotte a veteran backup PG/playmaker
Didn’t they just trade for Micic?
If you want a could be out of the rotation or could play type of dirt cheap guy, Jordan McLaughlin is the answer. If you want something more meaningful maybe see what the Knicks would want for Kolek?

Rest in peace Mamba. There'll never be another Kobe.

If they’re not looking to do much else in FA, I’m sure Memphis would love it if Charlotte took Cole Anthony’s one year deal into MLE so they can give JJJ a raise / extension and keep Aldama.

Any idea what the deal is with Tre Mann and his back? I thought he had good stretches at the beginning of last season and the end of the one prior.

I like Dinwiddie from the (I think) reasonably priced guys out there…where’s Dennis Smith? Didn’t he have kind of a resurgence recently?

Damn some of these options are sad. The Cole Anthony option is interesting I guess.
As for Tre Mann, he's not really a PG. He can be a primary ball handler for the 2nd unit but he really does not facilitate much. Hornets can't be competitive without a backup PG and something real at C.

Just sign Tyus Jones in FA. He’s perfect as a ball distributor who doesn’t turn the ball over

Re: Find Charlotte a veteran backup PG/playmaker
I think you try offering a 1+! for full MLE to Chris Paul as a money play/come back to Carolina attempt. He is exactly what the franchise needs both on the court, but more importantly holding guys accountable, insisting the team plays hard and the team plays right. He won't let slide a lot of the stuff the franchise has been letting slide.
Not getting him, just sign Brogdon and another guy. Brogdon will miss games, but he also provides the things the team needs better than some of these other guys.

He's back to full health and expected to return, he's a scorer though, not really a point guard

I would suggest an expiring Ayo Dosunmu from CHI but I can't see a good offer to be made

CP3 is by far my favorite option. Him or trying to pry Conley out of Minnesota, but they'd obviously need a replacement PG in hand. Tyus Jones would be nice as well.
I'd steer clear of Dinwiddie. He's been terrible for a pretty long time at this point.Skybox wrote:I like Dinwiddie from the (I think) reasonably priced guys out there…where’s Dennis Smith? Didn’t he have kind of a resurgence recently?
DSJ played well as a defensive guy in Charlotte 2 years ago, but his offense is horrible. I'm surprised he hasn't latched on somewhere as a Gary Payton II kind of utility guard, but he isn't what we need at that spot right now. Offense has to be the priority.
He announced he was cleared about a month ago, and should have a healthy offseason. He's more of a scoring SG, that can masquerade as a PG in a pinch, but he isn't a floor general by any stretch. I am excited to get him back though, our bench really missed him.DrModesty wrote:Any idea what the deal is with Tre Mann and his back? yes he does. Any chance the Jazz would let him go without a 1st coming back, or would we need to sacrifice one of the two heavily swapped 1sts Phoenix has given us in their various dealings with us?LightTheBeam wrote:Sexton makes sense here, right?

Terry Rozier back for Nurkic. Heat need a backup big and Terry could try to bounce back on a team he is obviously very familiar with. Both are on expiring deals.

I don't think anyone is giving up an unprotected pick for a backup pg
“If you're getting stops and you're making threes and the other team's not scoring, that's when you're going to see a huge point difference there,” coach Billy Donovan said.

Re: Find Charlotte a veteran backup PG/playmaker
Cole Anthony for Okogie gtd at 5.6m works if Charlotte want to keep their MLE in tact. Likely will get a 2nd out of it. Memphis either waives Okogie for the 7.5m in cap savings or pays more to dump it completely. Or just take Cole into the MLE for a few 2nds from Memphis is the easiest way.
Tyus Jones would be ok there. Can you convince Brogdon to waste the rest of his productive years with more money? I think Schroder will have too many suiters to choose Charlotte. Russell can be had if you are the highest bidder.
