Cam Johnson to OKC

Post#1 » by SUPERVILLAIN » Fri Jun 27, 2025 6:01 am

I was convinced that OKC was going to move for Cam Johnson during the draft. They definitely felt the lack of shooting in the Finals. They are clearly thin at frontcourt. And OKC got the 15th and 24th pick to make a deal. In the end it didn't happen.

But I believe Cam Johnson to OKC just makes so much sense. How would the trade look like?

How about this? Isaiah Joe, Ousmane Dieng and OKC first round pick in 2026 for Cam Johnson. Perhaps add several second round picks into the mix.

Just an observation. Carry on :usa:

Feels like a big price to pay for a guy they don' need.

I think the Nets want Johnson as a veteran leader and shooter, especially with so many pass happy rookies. That being said, everyone has a price. The Nets have been holding firm on 2 firsts for CamJ, but if it's the best of OKC's many '26 firsts (most of which have varying protections from their original teams), then they might be more flexible. Odds are, unless Utah's top 8 protected pick conveys as a late lottery pick, the best of OKC's picks will be in the late teens at best, so maybe the Nets still insist on a little more.

yeah that's the deal I want us to make. maybe the Nets wants a better pick or two picks and I'm fine with it too. The only problem from OKC side might be Cam Johnson contract from 2026 and beyond because payroll gonna increase a lot with max contracts to Chet/JDub so that's maybe why Presti might want to stick with a guy like Joe that is under a very friendly contract.

I don’t mind the deal but I’m not the one who need worry about the luxury tax implications.

I wouldn’t trade the LAC or Philly firsts for Cam Johnson, just in case Harden gets hurt and the Philly pick has such huge variance..

Might trade 2 firsts for CamC but they wouldn’t be good ones considering the team likely needs to move on from him after 12 months.

It’s for sure OKC can still be majorly upgraded , but what exactly is Joe/dillon/Dieng plus picks going get us ?

I see the Nets pressuring the Thunder into giving up the Clippers or 76ers pick for Cam Johnson. I feel if the Nets were willing to settle for a very late 1st round pick, he would've been traded a long time ago.

I think the ship has sailed on OKC trading for this type of player. It messes up their cap sheet, they’re clearly good enough as currently constructed, and Presti has told us repeatedly he’s not interested in 6’8” roleplaying wings

Also just between bringing Topic in and internal development they should be better next year without making any moves

Looking at it pretty quickly, this would put OKC in the tax which they should do everything in their power to avoid the upcoming season to push back the repeater rates a couple of years.

Seems like they’ll go pretty far past the 2nd apron after Jdub and Chet extensions start next offseason, so keeping the repeater rates from kicking in should be an absolute priority this year.

I could see OKC ownership paying a decent tax bill to keep a championship squad together, but I don’t see them paying $100M+ just in taxes based on their history. Staying out of the tax this year gives them an extra year of keeping most of the team together. The new CBA has changed how all-in you can go.

I've been down on the Johnson to OKC trades too, especially the numerous versions that have OKC sending out Topic, which I think is a non-starter, or multiple good first rounders. But if the price is low enough, and OKC clears a roster spot, I think it gets a lot more interesting. Joe, Dieng, and the lower of the two first-rounders that are guaranteed for next year (two better of LAC, HOU, OKC) would be a very good deal for OKC. But why would Brooklyn take it? They're not at a point where Joe matters to them, and one late first-rounder can't be enough for their best remaining trade asset.

I still think OKC should go after PJ Washington-and go for 75 wins. Sure, he's expiring, but they could have an EPIC year next year and he's a perfect fit. Chet will miss games, and you have a great starter to throw in there

I suggested White to Dallas
PJ to OKC
Dieng/#15 (once contract is signed and tradable) to Chic. With Sorber there, it still works for Chi

I'm fine with PJ Washington but OKC isn't trading their FRP. We will draft one guy as high as possible every year and hope we can get some help from guys under rookie contract. That's our best and only chance to keep winning with the current CBA.

We have several picks in the next draft so I don't mind using one of them for an expiring guy like PJ Washington but again he's probably gonna earn as much as Cam Johnson is right now and it's gonna be a mess salary wise.
