A pair of bad Blazers trades

Post#1 » by Mamba4Goat » Fri Jun 27, 2025 8:34 pm

Trade one:
Chicago sends: Heurter, Collins
Portland sends: Holiday, Reath

*maybe some 2nds(?) are sent to Portland too? Are expirings enough for Holiday?

Why for Portland? Get off of Holiday’s long term money and let him compete for the Bulls.
Why for Chicago? Getting Holiday should place them firmly in the mix for the very wide open (and kinda underwhelming) east.

Trade two:
Portland sends: Ayton
Brooklyn sends: S+T Cam Thomas (3yrs/$60?)

Why for Portland? Open up the center rotation for Clingan, Rob Will, and Yang. Also replaces Simons.
Why for BK? Get an interesting expiring center to take a flier on.
Why for Thomas? Would have a strong case for being the second best player on the team (behind Deni) and lots of opportunities offensively.
Rest in peace Mamba. There'll never be another Kobe.

No god no.

Second trade makes me shutter. First one might work financially but Chauncey probably has a boner for Jrue despite his big deal.

Portland just traded an expiring for Holiday...now they undo it?

Why not Ayton to the BULLS? I think he would be a good PnR partner for Giddey..
Vuc+J.Carter+BLAZERS FRP for Ayton + 2 SRP?..Maybe include Thybulle to the MLE? Or Murray?

If we trade Jrue or Ayton to the Bulls we would want to work something with our pick they hold coning back

I think they like Jrue but is was also a lot about moving on from Simons

I'm confused. Portland flips Jrue for both more expiring money and also worse players? Am I reading this right?

And then Portland trades for a worse version of Anfernee Simons, a player they just traded?

This reads like a satire.

The Bulls want to get younger by trading Vucevic,

They don't want to get Holiday while they have Giddey, White, Dosunmu and Ball.

This is NO WAY from the get go

If any trade is done between Chicago and Portland, and I’m not saying this is my entry, I would think Ayton to Chicago for Collins/Huerter with picks involved possibly.

Bulls consolidate two expiring contracts into one and take a quick look at Ayton.

Blazers remove Ayton but stick with expiring contracts. Huerter could possibly help, I feel like Collins either gets swapped for a better fit depth player or just provides a deep depth option/mentor type

If I were the Blazers, I'd resign Ayton who seems to be reasonably productive, develop Yang, and deal Clingan if I could get a decent return (mid to late lottery pick this year or one with reasonable expectations next year). Clingan might have a bit more value than the mid to late lottery pick this year but has less cost controlled years which balances it out. Ayton's not as good as his raw stats, but Clingan doesn't seem to be a needle mover either and Portland would still have 4 guys who probably need to play the 5 assuming RW3 actually suits up and they don't waive Reath.

How is Clingan not a needle mover? He’s a very solid rebounder and rim protector. Hes a solid foundational piece.

Let's get wild with it, I think in a few years he's a Rudy Gobert type defender. Kid had some special impact stats as a rookie.

The audacity to say Clingan is not a needle mover and Blazers should re-sign Ayton.

I think it’s fair to suggest Clingan might not be a needle mover but resigning Ayton is a wild take.

He does have value but not to a team that’s not close to contention.

Even as a rookie, his defensive impact was obviously a factor in the Blazers second half run.

He could have wanted see more from clingan or more sustained impact . Not an indefensible position.
