Good on the owner being willing to spend, but I almost would have rather went out and signed someone like Trent on a 1 year minimum to fill this role.

Merrill is underrated, he's absolutely better than Trent

Uh... not sure about this one. Sam is worth every penny in a vacuum, but the Cavs aren't operating in a vacuum.

Around double what I expected, both in AAV and and length.

I’d have expected $6-7m, but this is probably the number that had to be paid to keep Merrill from looking on the market. This is the risk avoidance price. But I’d have thought drafting Proctor and trading for Lonzo was enough of that kind of risk avoidance.

Kind of high, but a lot of teams want shooters. Definitely feels like Ty isn't expected back. Not sure where he goes? Charlotte?

Yeah I'm about here. It's higher than I thought he'd get but I'm also fine with it generally. For the Cavs it's extremely expensive

$9M/season for a sharp-shooter is about what I expected. It's ~65% of the MLE.

Malik Beasley got $6M last year and is going to get a raise. Luke Kennard got $9M last season. Sam Hauser got 4-years, $45M. Isaiah Joe is on a 4-year, $48M deal.

Cavs doing their best OKC 2024 offseason interpretation with trading for a "vet" Bulls player for a cheap price and giving a late 2nd round pick a decent/small contract.

I think we underestimate the gap between the likes of Merrill and Hauser, and the likes of GTJ and THJ. It's not just the 2-4 percentage points on the 3P%, it's also the type of threes the former group is able to shoot that stretches the defense.

Merrill is also a decent defender. I am glad he is returning, though this certainly means no Ty Jerome.

Honestly, that type of commitment means the Cavs aren't all that confident that both Mitchell and Garland will be on the roster after next summer.

My argument wasnt that trent is better. Its a lot of real life money, when a team is already paying 5 guys big money. Id have assumed the owner would save x amount of dollars and find a vet looking for an opportunity. If this costs them Hunter or strus down the line, im always going to prioritize my top guys and try to fill in around the edges.

Yeah, I think the thing I’m most surprised by is four years for Merrill. Even though he’s just hitting his stride, he isn’t a young guy.

The Ball deal is fine. The org and the fans are never going to trust Okoro, and maybe he wouldn’t trust himself without an environment switch. Ball could either be a contributor or an expiring salary we can pay to get off of at the deadline.

The owner has money. What he doesn’t have is a LeBronless Ring.

This is at least double what he’s worth. Would’ve just rather let him walk. Now it’s just another overpaid guy they’ll be looking to dump to get under second apron in a year like Okoro.

He'll make less than taxMLE in a couple years. I think they recognize that if the core doesn't get it done this year, they're breaking it up and they weren't prepared to lose the offensive production provided by both Ty and Merrill (and I'm not sure keeping Ty was in the cards).
