SAC-UTA-MIA

Post#1 » by HadAnEffectHere » Sun Jun 29, 2025 3:55 am

Kings get: John Collins
Heat get: DeMar DeRozan
Jazz get: Scary Terry, one second each from Kings and Heat.

Why for Sacramento: More frontcourt help and less duplicative with LaVine
Why for Heat: Turn useless player into guy who eats possession
Why for Utah: Turn good player who isn't part of future into minor assets.

The 2 x 2nds need to come from the Heat, not 1 each IMO and IF they have interest in DDR, they would be happy to pay that when the other costs is just Rozier.

Derozan is owed 10M guaranteed next year so i think kings owe a 2nd for getting out of that obligstion

Yeah and they're taking on 2m THIS year with the deal which pushes the boundaries of what they can do this year. It's not much, but we saw what that was like last year. I would argue either the gtd money next year doesn't matter if the 2m this year doesn't.

As mentioned, IF the Heat want DDR, they would gladly pony up both 2nds because they would absolutely see the value in it of what Rozier is. They aren't just going for a clear and free expiring contract, they're going for on court production. See what the Butler trade looked like when everyone said they wouldn't take back salary.
If you look at what the rumored deals of DDR to Miami have been, DDR for Rozier is clearly not even close.

That's not even going into what a Miami vs Sacramento 2nd looks like and which one has the more value.

If I were running Miami, I do this deal giving 1 or 2 2nds.

Rozier doesn't fit in Miami and DeRozan gives Miami an elite scorer who is good at getting to the line. Miami has consistently been one of the worst offensive teams over the last 3 years, and DeRozan would go A LONG way towards helping Miami solve that problem. DeRozan also fits Miami's 2-year time line to get their finances in order.

Id give both 2nds to make this deal happen. Swapping demar for Collins is great for sac. Like this idea for everyone

I'd cut Sacramento out, give two seconds, and just take Collins.

If this is all Utah can get for Collins maybe. Still looking to package two of Collins, Sexton, or Clarkson and take back bad salary for a FRP in whatever year.

What's the difference between 2 x 2nds and a 1st? Assuming no one is dumb enough to give an unprotected pick for the package(s) you're proposing.
Is it like, hey we'll get you 4 x 2nds?
Is it like the Charlotte 1st the Kings received this year? Like the one that was guaranteed to turn into 2 x 2nds?

What do you believe is the correct compensation for let's say Collins or Sexton or Clarkson individually, pairing them or all of them? If you pair 2 of the 3 together you are getting a high priced guy right?
J. Collins/Sexton - $45.6m
J. Collins/J. Clarkson - $40.7m
C. Sexton/J. Clarkson - $33.3m
J. Collins/Sexton/J. Clarkson - $60m.

Let's start at the lower end of salaries with that 3rd option of $33.3m.

Now I'm not going into the math of all this because it depends on what each teams apron is etc. And I know teams can get really creative.
But what "bad salary" is currently out there that is worth more, or equal etc to that $33.3m. Go from similar to that amount and then go upwards and let me know who would be willing to pay a 1st for wiping the money out. Maybe there are teams out there that would do it. I'm not sure. But who are they?

I want to trade two quality players and take bad salary for an unprotected first. Not really interested in 2nds.

I don't think you're getting an unprotected first for two expiring guys that were pretty good for a pretty bad team.

I think your only shot of getting a first for those two would be MIL.

Sexton and Collins for Dame and worse of NOP/MIL 1st.

And MIL is only doing that if Giannis is pressuring them.

I would prefer to keep him, but part of me is looking forward to a potential bidding war for John Collins.

Giannis doesn’t have to pressure them. Everybody knows they have internal pressure to make moves to keep Giannis.

And I’m not taking the worse of. I’d take the best of. The pressure is on the Bucks to improve and Dames contract is huge. If they want to get two high quality players who would fit with Giannis and send out Dame I don’t see a better option for them than Sexton and Collins. Not many teams can even take back Dame. And with the new CBA taking back bad salary is at a premium.

If Utah can’t make that trade….ok. I still don’t think I would do the trade proposed in here though. Rather find a different young player to go after.

If this isn’t part of a bigger 2-3 step package deal it’s not the market speaking, but our GM being an idiot. To send a 2nd to get a worse/contract and player makes no sense. We could have just done nothing and been better off. So that’s just a GM making a boneheaded move….unless this is a signal we are moving Kessler. And we better be getting a damn good deal because if he sends Kessler for a bad deal he should be fired a few weeks into his job.
