Aww, I'll miss him being a Warrior - I was hoping for a random bench guy lifer and always liked him next to their big names.
But can't turn down that money.
Don't get it for the Pelicans much at all.

End of an era
I love Looney but holy hell that is a massive overpay for him at this stage in his career.

This might be the worst offseason since Portland handed out the Crabbe/Turner/Leonard/Harkless/Ezeli contracts? I mean, it is worse than that one, too, but that is maybe the next worst in the last ... 20 years?

Lakers rushing to overpay deng and mozgov at start of free agency.

I mean if that pick they gave to Atlanta turns into AJ Dybantsa or Darryn Peterson it might be the worst offseason...ever?

I can only assume that Joe Dumars is in some kind of Producers/Brewster's Millions scenario where he needs to get fired as fast as possible.

It was the same year

it was the cap spike year. I think Portland was worse b/c they handed out 5 terrible contracts (Crabbe and Turner were paid about the same as Mozgov/Deng) but that was a rough time lol

In the modern era for sure. Pre-90s there were a lot of transactions to keep teams from going bankrupt, etc. that look HORRIBLE.

I call 2016 the 'summer of stupid' for NBA teams. I'd actually have Orlando as the worst, though Portland, LAL, NYK, Memphis and others all had 'you should be fired and never have another NBA job' level of incompetence.

The Jazz 'traded' the pick that became Magic Johnson for the right to sign Gail Goodrich in free agency :-/

IMO this deal isn't that bad. Looney's still a playable rotation option and give an adult in the room to the Pells post rotation.

A lot of money to be a babysitter to their youth. Should have been league min or pass.

He's a solid 15 mpg guy but his body breaks down if you ask him to play more than that regularly. Given the number of guys who can give you reliable but unspectacular backup 5 minutes, that shouldn't merit more than a vet min deal.

They traded next year's pick with no protections. So they clearly intend on being good. He can offensive rebound. He doesn't offer much else at this point. They need more.
