Siakam to OKC

Post#1 » by jowglenn » Tue Jul 1, 2025 9:15 pm

Well with Turner leaving, maybe we really do a one-year mini-tank and retool the whole thing.

Pacers out: Siakam
Thunder out: Hartenstein, Joe, slew of future 1sts (which ones? Let's say 2026 PHI 1st, 2026 best of HOU/LAC 1st, 2027 DEN 1st, 2028 DAL 1st)

Why for Pacers: Get a fill-in at center for a year or two and pick up a bunch of extra 1sts. Could pull in a third team to re-route Hartenstein to as well, if anyone has suggestions. Tank a season and come back a year later with Haliburton & a high 1st and those extra 1sts.

Why for Thunder: Nab all-star Siakam still in his prime. Make a great team even greater. Put Chet full time at center as he should be. Shai/Dort/Williams/Siakam/Holmgren is just crazy good.

The idea of trading Siakam in a one-year tank move is worth consideration. But OKC is the wrong target. They just won a title and everyone on their roster is still getting better. Why would they mess with that chemistry? They're going to need their war chest of picks to acquire cheap depth around their big three after they sign max deals.

I'd holdout for Chet.

Presti won a title so no more screaming this.. But OKC should’ve traded for Pascal when Indy did.

But now they won a title so I doubt they are interested in this.

Yeah OKC hangs up. They don’t need Siakam, but they’re offering Indy a way to tank and let their young guns run this season while collecting assets to do so.

I think I'd disagree with the initial premise for OKC that Chet should be a center right now. I think they need the muscle and strength that Hartenstein provided at the center position. Chets size and length really bothers 4s and there certainly are matchups he can take the 5 man. But there's a lot of big strong centers in the west playoff picture. And Chets still only 23. As he ages he'll probably add more size (though his dad was also a pretty slender guy too) and maybe in the future he becomes more of a full time 5. But for right now, I think him at the 4 in a double big is a great use of his on ball length and weak side help. I wouldn't be in a rush to change that.
