The best guard Daniel Gafford could return?

Post#1 » by daoneandonly » Sun Jul 6, 2025 5:32 pm

I like Gaff and don't want to trade him, but realistically he's probably Dallas' most valuable, expendable trade chip. Which guards could be available for Gafford whether a 2 team or multi team swap. Before Indy got Huff, thought maybe they'd consider Jarace for him, where Dallas would ship him to another for a guard. But more unlikely now. Klay Thompson isno longer a starting quality guard on a team that wants to contender, him and D Low are probably the worst backcourt outside of Utah/Charlotte.

Some of my preferred guys would be

Aaron Wiggins
Peyton Pritchard
Benedict Mathurin
Bub carrington

Any feasible options?

i wouldn't complain if we re-traded Sexton to fill the giant hole at C, but I don't think we will. He's also the only guard/wing that isn't going to jack up a disproportionate amount of threes, and we need the rim pressure he provides on offense

Anfernee Simons? Maybe Coby White, but I still think the Mavericks are likely going have to pay to go from Gafford to White.

Really? They have D'lo as a stop until Kyrie gets healthy. There is zero chance gafford is being moved for a guard. They keep their front court depth so AD is well surrounded. Did you really think this through before you posted it?

I like Gafford, but $18M a year for a 20 mpg rim runner is a little steep. I don't think he gets you guys in the Mathurin/Carrington/Pritchard tier of prospects.

Wiggins would be nice, but OKC isn't interested in an expensive 3rd string center, particularly after drafting Sorber.

Would Corey Kispert make sense? He is more of a forward than a guard, but he can shoot it.

CJ for Gafford/Martin/Marshall/LAL '29 1st

Dallas goes for it
CJ/Christie/DLo/Klay/Hardy hold down the backcourt until Irving comes back
Forwards are Flagg/AD/Washington-need some depth there
Lively/Powell at C (also need another)

Wash starts Gafford/Sarr and goes big

Yea don't see Orl considering this, but definitely one Dallas should consider. Black is still promising. Not sure if adding a Martin and WCJ swap helps or hurts

CJ was just traded for Poole and by magical properties he's now worth Gafford and an unprotected 1st? This seems wildly off on value.

Thinking it would definitely have to be a 3 teamer if Wiggins were coming to Dallas. Jarace Walker to Okc could potentially have legs, but not sure if Indy does it

Does Smart for Gafford interest Dallas? It's probably not enough, but it's what Washington has to offer.

I might actually consider CJ for Gafford if Dallas had an expiring contract to kick in to make it work salary wise. But I'm not interested in taking on Klay without some extra compensation.

The point would be for Dallas to get younger, so no interest in a Gaff for Smart swap. Only guy I'd be willing to trade Smart for is Klay, which the Wiz would quickly decline

Knicks don't have anything to trade that adds up to the salary, but 40M between Mitch and Gafford would be fantastic.

Jalen Smith and Ayo for Gafford?

Chicago get a young starting centre, Dallas get a guard and big depth?
