Neither Dallas nor LA entertain this deal...

I don’t know how Dallas could bridge the gap between PJ and McCain. A normal team could trade their current year first and it’s probably fair. But not Dallas.
I don’t think it’s the LAL first because it is unprotected and so far out, but it’s more than anything else Dallas can offer so likely has to include the LAL first.

The original trade is very Sixers oriented without much good reason for the other teams to do it... But theres a zero percent change they'd include McCain in a Washington deal.

mccain for washington + knecht (ie 2 1sts worth) is much closer than OP

I disagree.
I don't think Knecht would net a 1st and PJ would probably get a protected 1st since he's on an expiring.
But I do agree the original deal is light for both teams in a way that there's not much point in talking about a way to bridge the gap.

OP is terrible for Dallas
With respec to some of the counters, I like McCain, but he played good in a handful of games and then was out, dont think that's worth PJ and a first

Derailing a bit probably but we could always go back to McCain and PG for all of Dallas’ MLE sized contracts.. probably get some extra value back to Dallas as well because I don’t think McCain should dump PG’s third year and bring back Gafford/PJ?
Need a third team to take some salary, or provide Dallas some value if you want to go that route..

If Washington is just worth Oubre and a 2nd, Dallas might as well hold on to him because that would reflect re-signing him should be cheaper than expected. And if not, well dang you lost a whole 2nd rounder, no big loss, but keep the better player for the year.
LA signed a couple of mediocre centers so Drummond adds less value so I don't see them trading Knecht for this.
Obviously for Philly getting a starter and decent prospect for a couple journeymen and 2nd rounders is great, but its not often you get the best player and prospect for 2 2nd rounders especially when not taking on any bad money.

A more realistic counter than my previous post..
Oubre, Dre and “3ish” seconds to Dallas
Gafford to Philly
Council, Powell, and a second to Washington/Chi/Brooklyn/etc
Dallas keeps a good enough back up center while clearing the room for Exum and getting a couple seconds and a guy that can score, despite playing the wrong position for Dallas’ roster.
Philly improves their center play for when Joel is out. Considering how lowly protected their 2026 first is to OKC, raising the bar and chasing the play-in feels understandable?
I don’t see a PJ deal working as Philly shouldn’t trade a future first and Dallas shouldn’t add a first to PJ to get McCain.

It’s instructive to me how every Sixers idea runs into the same problems.
They’re almost impossible to find a trade for because either they’re stealing value like this or it’s trading off McCain’s star outcomes for more certainty in a 4/5. Neither is tenable as the base of a trade.

I can live with this but only if Klay goes out in a subsequent trade or Oubre gets rerouted elsewhere. Really dont want both those guys on the roster at once.
But Dallas should be doing what they can to add 2nds, ridiculous they are soo dearth there

Yeah, I think if Dallas did this you’d just look to trade Martin or Naji for more second(s) and look to have the full MLE next summer for whatever position ends up needing it most (Lively or Christie do not develop, PJ walks, etc)
Klay’s shooting is too important imo unless Dallas brings in a different shooter or the upgrade is just worth it. This bad idea is not worth it.

My ideal target is Aaron Wiggins, but dont see see a way for Dallas to get him. I could settle on Isaiah Joe, but similarly, don't see the path to get him that would interest OKC. My issue with Klay is he shouldnt be a starter anymore, but neither he or Nico can accept that

The point of the OP (albeit in a trade that's light for the other parties) was to get help at the 4, not upgrade the backup C.
And my hunch is that Bona ends up slotting ahead of Drummond at the backup C anyway.
