Embiid to Cleveland

Joel Embiid and Andre Drummond for Jarrett Allen, DeAndre Hunter, and Dean Wade

Tyrese Maxey / Jared McCain / Kyle Lowry
VJ Edgecombe / Ricky Council IV / Eric Gordon
Paul George / Kelly Oubre / Justin Edwards
Dean Wade / DeAndre Hunter / Trendon Watford
Jarrett Allen / Adem Bona / Johni Broome

Darius Garland / Lonzo Ball / Craig Porter Jr.
Donovan Mitchell / Jaylon Tyson
Max Strus / Sam Merrill
Evan Mobley / Larry Nance Jr.
Joel Embiid / Andre Drummond

Sixers get to move on from Embiid in a way that allows them to stay competitive. Cleveland gets another elite player without sacrificing Mobley or Mitchell, and looks like the east coast favorite next year. I would imagine the Sixers look to move Paul George after this. Maybe even for Bradley Beal who has one less year on his contract.

I like this as a Sixers fan. Anything it would need for balance? Do other fans disagree with my take? Cheers.

If the Sixers can move off of Embiid's contract, and I'm really skeptical, there's absolutely no way it's for positive value.

The Cavs pass on this for obvious reasons.

Embiid makes 5 mil more than allen/hunter/wade combined and cleveland is in 2nd apron so lots of hurdles to clear here before this is legal

what about a similar trade for Giannis instead of Embiid? Where Mobley shifts to center.

Trading Emiid would solidify that the 76ers are fully rebuilding. If Emiid won't be able to stay healthy for most season ever again, I would do this deal, however I don't see a reason for the Cavaliers to do this. A healthy Joel Emiid is of far more valuable than Jarrett Allen/De'Andre Hunter. Also, this trade is not even legal considering the Cavaliers are not able to attach salaries in a trade due to being over the 2nd apron.

No reason for CLE to take on the risk that comes with Embiid without serious compensation, which this does not provide.

I would add to this that the ONLY team that can avail itself of the medical retirement exception, which would allow Embiid's cap hit to drop off the books, is the Sixers. Once he's traded, that option goes away.

I cant see Joel being worth Allen or Hunter right now.

I think CLT could be a team desperate enough to trade for Joel though..

If Philly wants to talk either PG or Joel with a bunch of value for AD just call, though I think you just sit on Joel and hope he can get right. Would love to hear he had the same operation as Ball, even if it meant not seeing him next season..

WOuld take a similar variation of this deal for AD if Dallas could find a 3rd team that wants Jarrett Allen for their SG or big point guard.

It's not valid on the Cleveland side. Due to being over the second apron the Cavs can't aggregate unless they end up under the 2nd apron.

The Cavs can't trade for a supermax salary feasibly without trading one of Garland/Mitchell/Mobley. It also means overpaying the outgoing salary by roughly Deandre Hunter's contract. In most cases that will require a third team (i.e. Utah or Brooklyn) and possibly a fourth.

Likely the only player who could be available with enough excess value for it to be worth the Cavs getting under the 2nd apron is Giannis.

Understood - so this whole concept was basically DOA. I dont mind if this is locked unless others want to chat

Maybe Giannis being the only player is an exaggeration, but the Cavs would really need to be out on one of their current max contracts and in on another team's.

You can get away with Garland/Hunter/Strus or Garland/Hunter/Allen for player X, but the player has to be worth it or give the Cavs enough reason to do it. But if the Nets or Jazz need to be compensated to use their excess salary room, there's a decent issue there.

Would the Cavs trade Garland/Hunter/Allen for AD? Unlikely for only AD, but maybe there's sweetener from a fourth team that takes Allen or Claxton and sends mediocre salary to the Nets. The Pre-Ayton Lakers were a prime candidate for this and may still be.

And that requires Dallas to devalue AD from Luka-tier to just Garland + Hunter, which just isn't going to happen even if that's close to what he's worth.

With all due respect, when was the last time Embiid was healthy? He has never played more than 68 games a season and has averaged only 50 games a season for his career. Given that he is on the north side of 30 and is dealing with chronic issues, the idea of a "healthy Embiid" is not really a reality anymore.

I think the obvious trades are mostly off the table, Embiid for Dame, or Embiid for Beal. Dame is no longer an option, but maybe Phoenix decides that the only way to salvage the situation is to get the best player they can even if the risk is massive.

unless Philly get a decent rebuilding package, which isn't happening, they are probably better off running it back and trying to manage Embiid so he can play in the play offs. take advantage of the weak conference to give the city another play off run.

Which near contender can afford to risk it all on Embiid health ? Thats the team that Sixers should target for a trade. Most other team would prefer a lot less talented player in return so long as they are generally durable health wise.

Or more importantly which team thinks they can be a contender?

I'm kinda looking at Sacramento.

This. There's really no upside (and tremendous downside) to trading Embiid for his "fair" value rn.
