In December when Kyrie can be traded.

Salary difference is about 100k (Dallas is picking up more salary). LAL probably needs to clear a little salary to make room for minimum signings, but I am going to hand-waive that as not an impediment to the core deal.

LAL trades: Austin Reaves, Gabe Vincent, Maxi Kleber
DAL trades: Kyrie Irving

The Lakers add a star player both LeBron and Luka like. If they have a sense he could be ready for the playoffs, I think it makes some immediate sense. If not, though, I could still see a scenario where they use other pieces to add a stopgap and just trade for Irving because he has a decent contract moving forward and he is close to Luka (and better than Reaves).

Dallas gets a bit younger, a bit bigger, and cheaper. If Reaves walks they at least clear Kyrie's salary, but realistically Reaves won't cost as much as Kyrie and since Dallas is close to home (Arkansas) he may have good reason to stay.

Should Knecht and/or future picks be added to balance, or is it okay as-is?

Unprotected 1st just to grab Dallas’ attention

Yeah if Dallas is truly thinking championship as they claim, and now have AD, Flagg, and Kyrie, they’re not gonna wanna trade kyrie for Parts without something enticing coming with it.

Dallas wouldn't do this and isn't responsible for making LA happy despite what went down in February. This is not good for Dallas. They don't want Kleber back, rental or not. Vincent sucks, rental or not

You've been clamoring for a Dallas move to get younger and here you have Kyrie for Reaves trade that you don't like.

Perhaps Reaves for Davis?

Vincent and Kleber are clearly not value here. It is the future cost of Reaves and the projection of his level of play vs. Kyrie into the future. Kyrie is injured, 6-2, and 32 years old. Over the next 4 years, who projects to give their team more value? I think there are reasonable arguments either way on Kyrie vs. Reaves (at a lesser salary).

This is simply really bad for the Mavericks. Gabe and Kleber are bad expiring contract and Austin Reaves is going to be massively overpaid soon. When that is taken into consideration, package the Lakers are sending to the Mavericks isn't even positive value and not nearly enough for Kyrie Irving.

Will he get overpaid? That seems like a strong assumption, and if he does, let him walk and trade AD. I think asking for a first and/or Knecht seems reasonable to balance, but I am not sure what people think Kyrie returns in a deal? Obviously they do not have to move him, but considering that Flagg is the future I think they'd be better off swapping Kyrie for someone younger.

Reaves is actually a great playoff performer for several seasons, he was injured during the recent playoffs and should have been out for 1-2 weeks but played through it:

Austin Reaves is worth around/below full mid level exception money(full midlevel projected to 15 million next off season) based on the fact that he's good but not great scorer, a okay playmaker, but he's liability on defense and disappears in the playoffs. Players of his skillset has been significantly devalued to the point where even at 18-19 million dollars, that contract may still be viewed as a negative(Colin Sexton for example) He's projected to make 30-35+ million dollars in next years Free Agency, unless he suffers a major injury, which means it's basically a lock he will making atleast twice as much money as he should be for a player of his skillset. Far as how much Kyrie Irving is worth in a trade, he's not worth a lot due to his torn ACL injury. Maybe a heavily protected 1st round pick if the other team is sending out players that's not negative value. Really the best thing for the Mavericks to do is keep Kyrie Irving and hope he rehab some of his value by time we get to the 2027 trade deadline.

If he is an 18 million dollar player I don't see a team offering 35 million. We are seeing free agents really get squeezed and medium-sized contracts getting dumped everywhere. I think we will see much more tame numbers, for the most part, moving forward.

OTOH, I can completely understand preferring to keep Kyrie.

As crazy as it sounds, Kyrie has become the leader of this team. He was there at summer league cheering the young guys. AD wasn't, and Kyrie didn't play 1/2 a game after getting traded to Dallas.

Nice preached defense, Austin isn't that. Kyrie is a better facilitator than Reaves, so not sure how this helps Dallas. Not to mention taking on 2 bums and then having to cut 2 people. Then pay Austin next year. It's neither cost effective or sensible

It might take Knect and the #1 in 2031 to make it work. Gabe and Kleber are just junk contracts Reaves is good but will need to be resigned soon.

I don't see the point for LA. Kyrie is a 33 year old recovering from an ACL injury.. His contract is likely not going to age well.

From what I have been reading the Lakers front office is planning for the Luka time line, not Lebron's and will probably not make any desperate hail Mary trades like the suggestion of the OP

Reaves to Dallas kill any chance to contend in Coop's prime. The Mavs has to trade the franchise player once again. No fan in Dallas would be happy with Reaves 30M per extension. That's second coming of Tyler Herro's contract.

Maybe if AD got hurt and the front office decided to do a full pivot to a Cooper Flagg timeline.
This Mavs team looks built to win now, and Kyrie to Reeves is a big fall-off thinking about playoff basketball.
