Utah - Portland - Sac

Portland out: Scoot, Grant, Thybulle, Orlando 28 1st
Portland in: Lauri, Keyonte

With the Dame news I'm struggling to see where Scoot fits long term in Portland. I can't imagine a world where Scoot/Dame both start in that backcourt, or one where Dame agrees to be on the bench. They use Scoot to massively upgrade Grant.

Utah out: Lauri, George
Utah in: Scoot, Demar, Thybulle, Saric

Why for Utah? Buy low on their PGOTF. They committed towards tanking this year, here they really go all in moving Lauri. Add a top 5 pick to a nice young core. Demar can be flipped at the deadline or has a 10 million partial next year if they cant find a deal.

Kings out: Demar, Saric
Kings in: Grant, Orlando 2028 1st

Why for Sac? They are desperate for a forward and refuse to tank, here they take on a ton of extra Grant money and get paid a 1st to do so.. The team will suck but at least it balances the roster and they get a pick.

I don't see Portland trading Scoot (for Lauri). I don't mind it for us if we went that way. If feels like an easier deal is just direct between Sacramento and Portland and the Blazers can waive or keep DeRozan?

Nobody really knows what type of player Dame will be when he returns from injury.

Head coach Billups has been talking about a big upgrade in Scoot's game next season...

I don't see who the Kings could give for Scoot that makes sense for Portland?

Grant + Scoot combine for 42.7
So to match it has to be

Sabonis - I suggested many times before Yang was drafted

LaVine - how many picks do we have to add?

Monk/Demar - yuck for Portland

My idea was more so that Portland adds a high level players without moving on from the long term core. In a year they can get right back in the action with dame back.

POR fan. I kind of like this. Replace the 1st with 1 or 2 second round picks, cash considerations...
I don't have faith in Scoot making the jump. Maybe mentoring under Dame helps. Maybe not?
Getting out of Grant's contract is nice, but not as important after the Jrue trade.
Lauri isn't as valuable as people believe. Was he the best player on a bad team? Absolutely. But so was Porzingas on the Knicks. And without web searching, do you even know what team he plays for? I bet you said either "who?" or "Boston!" Still, you need those types of players to contend.

I am saying to remove the Scoot part, just the Grant part.

I am a Lauri fan but I wonder what the long term fit is - do you bring Camara off the bench?

Regardless - PDX would make this move 20+ games into the 26/27 season with Dame back and proving healthy - you cant go into 25/26 with only Holiday as a guard who can run a set (And you probably have to give Scoot 3 years before moving him IMO).

But FWIW by that 26/27 timeline outlined above its highly likely that Lauri is already moved.

If UTA would take Grant and picks, that could get done this year IMO.

I'm not sure that I'd swap Grant for Lauri straight across... Both have albatross contracts and are not difference makers. The Utah portion of the trade is a hard no for me...

The Kings portion of the trade, I would think about -> but probably decline. DDR is the better player and contract, but he doesn't have any outside shot. I think Grant's 3pnt shooting ability would be more important to Portland moving forward (as they have a lot of players who need to occupy the paint area - in Clingan or drivers/cutters in Scoot/Shae/Deni/Camara).

I don’t like the OP for Portland at all. I don’t want to use Scoot and a 1st to swap Grant for an even more expensive contract in Lauri. I also think bringing Lillard back means we need to further double down on stacking the team with defense to compensate, and Lauri does not do that.

I like the idea of swapping DeRozan for a forward but honestly grant is trash and I don't want to make that swap even with the pick. I think I would rather have holiday and that terrible contract than grant on essentially the same deal.

Honestly if we are going to trade DeRozan for a not so great forward give me Kuzma at least that contract is more reasonable

I don't see any incentive here at all for Utah. Keep it simple, Demar + Saric for Grant + FRP.

That's wild, demar is the better player by a lot and on a better contract. As I said before I would rather Kuzma over grant.

Enjoy DDR then.
