Clippers Need a Backup ???

Not really a trade scenario, but it appears the Clippers appear to no longer need Kris Dunn. He is an awesome player that can contribute to any team as a defensive specialist, but the Clipper rotation is looking pretty solid without him. Can the Clippers get a better player at any position by trading that player plus Kris Dunn or can Dunn net the Clippers a FRP and cap savings? I have never seen such a deep lineup before (on paper).
C = Zubac / BroLo / Yanic
PF = Collins / NiCo / Kobe
SF = Kawhi / DJJ / Miller
SG = Beal / Bogi / Christie
PG = Harden / CP3 / Simmons (maybe)
Assuming the team is healthy (lol - I know), there is no real space for Dunn and he deserves to be played at least 20+ mins a game (not spot injury mins). This is enhanced if the Clippers bring back Simmons who can defend multiple positions (PG thru PF). Ultimately, the Clippers will be better served to have a true distributor backing up Harden, so it looks like Dunn is the odd man out. Even at his age, CP3 is superior to Dunn.
Any suggestions on how to improve the above backup squad using Dunn as bait?

You maybe get some seconds and a contract. But at cost and considering the situation, Clippers are a lot better off just keeping him even if he barely plays

I get that. He is a great value and not the kind of piece you bury on the bench. He deserves better and I hope he gets it.

No one is giving a FRP for Kris Dunn.

I think you can run a 11 man rotation. You will be doing lots of load managing and beal isnt a very durable player

Is CP3s interest in the Clippers that strong? I mean if he really does sign for the vet min, I’d be sorely tempted to try to trade Dunn somewhere for 3 SRPs (ala Thomas Bryant) while his shine is at its highest. Then use those SRPs and trade grease for future deals.
However previous poster brings up a fair point. Old dudes be old and load management will happen. Prolly best to keep Dunn around to soak up mins when the oldsters inevitably go down with injury or need load management.

I would just keep Dunn. CP won’t be there next season most likely and Dunn will be dirt cheap still..
And there’s going to be plenty of missed games in LA for Dunn to play bigger minutes this season…

Keep em! Good player and I'd call him a veteran now. He's been through the wars to get his career back on track and played well for LAC last year. He knows the system and provides essential defense if anything happens to the big money guys.

This is Ty Lue we are talking about. He will run with an 8 man rotation - Zu, BroLo, Collins, Kawhi, DJJ, Beal, Harden and CP3. That leaves Nico, Bogi, and Dunn on the bench for spot mins and garbage time for all of the youngsters yet again (Kobe, Christie, Yanic, Miller).
I just think Nico, Bogi and Dunn is too much talent to have riding the deep bench waiting for injuries.

Maybe 2-3 2nd round picks for Kris Dunn. Nobody is paying more than that for him. They are also better just keeping him anyway. Their point of attach defense at the guard positions is going become a huge concern if they trade him without a replacement. CP3/Harden/Beal are not quality defenders.

Thomas Bryant hasn’t been traded for 3 seconds total in his career. He just went for a future 2nd swap, and previousLy went with Beverley for 2 seconds.

Which is where I have Dunn value to be at . 1 second.
Can’t find a contender awash with picks that would be willing trade 3 seconds to trade and have a need at POA defence .

I could see Indy paying a 2nd or two to get Dunn for a year.

Just looking at this depth chart, I would much prefer Harden/CP3/Dunn at the PG spot. Dunn is also versatile enough to play at the 2 and he's very likely a better player than Bogi is at this stage of his career.
With Nico, Brolo, Beal and Kawhi's age + durability issues (I would add Harden but he's a bit of an ironman) there will be plenty of minutes to go around for Dunn and CP3 throughout the season. I don't think it's wise for a win now team to lose a player as good as Dunn for middling assets.

I think Dunn would look really good starting on the Bucks.
They could take him in to their Room exception

It's a possibility, but the Clippers are below the apron and have no real need for just salary relief. I thought a package of Dunn or Bogi plus one of the backups could bring in a better backup, but it looks like the Clippers should just roll with their current lineup and hope for the best.
I think Dunn is a borderline starter also. Just a shame to put the brakes on his career this hard after a stellar season.

The Clippers definitely improved in talent, but in my opinion they took a small step back on defense, so I would keep Dunn, who I also think would play a lot of minutes, especially if Coffey has left.
