Re: Simons for Monk
Both are limited in value, but Monk is simply more valuable

Re: Simons for Monk
Monk is a on a much cheaper contract, the kings can't absorb that much additional salary, and monk is arguably better than simons, it is close though.

Re: Simons for Monk
I don’t think the Celtics would add 20m in 26/27 for Monk. They don’t save enough on this trade for the coming year to make it worth while

Re: Simons for Monk
I've got Monk as the more valuable player but these smaller SG's like Monk/Simons seem to have just gone out of fashion overnight, so I don't know if Monk's extra years evens that out a bit despite him being cheaper.
I'd do it for Boston in the hopes that Monk, being the better player and cheaper, would be more tradeable into successive smaller contracts getting them closer to being under the tax.
I don't see it for the King's though unless they're worried about having to pay down the line for flexibility and would rather eat the frog and get it out of the way now by paying more for an expiring comparable player.
Will be fascinating what a guy like Simons gets on his next contract. Are these undersized scoring guards going to be taking massive paycuts in the future even if they are putting up gaudy stat lines? And if so, will that mean that potentially the pendulum swings towards them becoming more of a bargain vs. being clearly overpaid now? Will be really interesting to see how the league values them going forward.

I think it's the undersized shooting guards that are being treated as overpaid right now, but I think eventually the middle sized contracts are going to disappear under the current cba regardless of position. Soon the NBA is just going to be huge contracts and vet minimums and MLE sized deals.

I can see the logic. If BOS could find a taker for Monk (without taking back salary), turning Simons into a decent PF prospect (Isaac Jones) plus ducking the tax would be a win.
Unfortunately I think SAC has discovered that there aren't a lot of teams looking for someone like Monk. The market for bench guards with questionable D seems to have changed a lot this off-season, and I'm not sure that the pendulum will swing back by the TDL.
BOS might be better off planning to ship out Simons at the TDL with enough SRPs to avoid taking back money.
In a no-win argument, the first poster to Let It Go will at least retain some peace of mind
