Signing Bamba and making sense rarely go together.

Yeah, I feel like any center is worth signing when Plumlee is probably slotted for a semi-regular role.
But Bamba is not a huge step.

I feel their plan A signing Plumlee is as C3 but thus far have been skunked trying to add C1 via trade. Stuck with Plumlee, in other words. Total fail after busting on Salaün at 6 and adding a negative value contract (Josh Green) last offseason.

Mo Bamba sucks. He's a third string center. So is Plumlee, of course, but he's a better player than Bamba. That would be a downgrade.
If they want to take a lottery ticket flier on Bamba no one could fault them. Fine to gamble on upside with your their string guys, but they're so weak at center already that I don't think they should downgrade their third center on some idea of upside with Bamba that's been all fictitious to this point.

He has never risen to fall, he is good in concept, but it never translated.
Richaun Holmes is better.

the Hornets FO and making sense rarely go together either tbf, maybe we're onto something

But really, Charlotte has a nice C2 and C3 situation right now with Moose and Kalk. the problem is they're 1st and 2nd on the depth chart. No 4th stringer is helping this situation, the next center Charlotte acquires needs to be a couple tiers above Moussa Diabate as a player.

Richaun Holmes to Charlotte makes too much sense to me. It doesn’t solve anything, but he’s solid for cost and the role. Charlotte just kind of needs filler right now unless they have a trade in play

The problem is not assets. We control all our own first round picks plus we sit on a reserve of 4 outside 1st round picks, plus 12 second round picks.
The issue is matching salary. In order to create a roster spot for a new center, we would have to move Green or Grant Williams.
Both are injured and both owed 2 years. Seems like this offseason teams are valuing expiring deals to get out of tax situations. So teams holding centers on expiring contracts like Vuc will look to extract a premium at the deadline when competition heats up.
Hornets GM painted himself into a corner with Mason Plumlee playing meaningful minutes instead of filling the C3 role left by Taj Gibson.

nah, I'd rather just play Moussa+Kalkbrenner 24mpg apiece than add to the roster crunch by adding more bums to the mix. I'd have been more into Holmes before the Plumlee acquisition, but there's no point in adding yet another C of that caliber. Our next C acquisition absolutely NEEDS to be starting caliber, no exceptions.
Steve Clifford and Mitch Kupchak are still in the front office for some reason, the Plumlee signing has them written all over it, and there's no way the FO cuts him imo

What do you mean, "still in the front office"? Clifford just got there. And Clifford coached Plumlee, and ran the whole offense through him for like half season.
We also know Clifford was in the front office in BKN as an advisor. Our new GM from the Nets described his conversations about basketball with Clifford as, "magical".
Peterson is some kind of idiot if he really believes that **** he's selling. Very embarrassing that Clifford has the most wins in franchise coaching history.
He's about as obtuse as they come.

should've said "still in the organization". Steve Clifford having a say in personnel decisions (it's been rumored since draft night or soon after that he was the one in love with Tidjane Salaun as a prospect) is even worse than him coaching. I won't feel comfortable about this team's future until he and Kupchak are truly retired and have zero say in anything.

That makes sense. The Plumlee signing was off to me. Like I’d understand if you got a franchise center from the draft and then wanted a vet.
I’m hopeful for charlotte fans that they’re starting to finally figure it out
