Heat send: Rozier + Fontecchio
Heat get: D. Murray + Matkovic + 2nd

Nets send: Claxton
Nets get: Rozier + Hawkins + two 2nds

Pelicans send: D. Murray + Hawkins + Matkovic + three 2nds
Pelicans get: Claxton + Fontecchio
-------
Heat buy low on a PG that fits Heat culture, intel tells them Murray is set to return to play in December at full recovery and regain form by the playoffs. In the weak East, they can do well enough this season while he plays back into form. They get a flier on Matkovic and a 2nd for taking the long term salary.
*Fontecchio aggregation restriction lifts Sept. 7. Highsmith could replace him in the deal if needed.

Nets clear future cap space and solidify their tank further. They unleash Sharpe as a starter and open development minutes for Clowney, Timmee, and Wolf. They get two 2nds from the Pels and a flier on Hawkins who should thrive playing off their stable of PG rooks. Rozier-- they can waive/ buyout his expiring contract immediately or hold his for potential void of contract if his gambling investigation goes that way.

Pelicans solidify their playoff push by adding a starting level, shotblocking, rim-running upgrade at Center who can excels in the switch defense Coach Green plays. Looney can take the bulk of backup Center minutes, giving a nice plus-rebounding counterbalance to Claxton's skillset. Missi and Queen can develop slowly playing spot minutes while the team leans on win-now vets. They clear up the PG spot for Poole and Fears (and Brogdon who they will sign), while lessening their long term salary. Fontecchio is a flier spacing forward on an expiring deal.
---
Arguments against:
1) Murray is injured and out half the season. Teams probably don't want to risk trading for his multi year contract without seeing how he returns to play first. And if so, it may require a 1st or a swap to take him on.
Likewise, seems like Pelicans want to let him return mid season and regain some of his on court and trade value. A Murray trade probably makes more sense as a deadline or next offseason deal. But with Pels incentive to go for playoffs this season, replacing injured Murray with a good playable starter helps them not fall behind early on.

2) Heat may rather keep their long term cap clean unless for more of a star player.

3) Nets could wait out for a better Claxton deal at the deadline or next offseason.

4) Missi may be close enough to Claxton already for the Pelicans? The numbers say Missi was very raw and a low end starter, but maybe with a better, healthy roster he could be near as impactful as Claxton.

I am not all that familiar with Hawkins but if the Nets are giving up Claxton and using their cap space to help the other two teams, at least one first rounder would need to be included IMHO.

This is way too good for the Pelicans, and I'm not even that high on Claxton

Hawkings doesn't have the type of value for the Nets to consider this. And it would be a bit weird for NO to add another center (though at the price they probably say yes).

He's a "shooter" who hasn't shot particularly well at the NBA level and doesn't do much else. I don't see him as much of a value-add, more of a throw-in for a team that might be interested in taking a flier on him.

If Nets are going to just give Claxton away I would think a team like Charlotte could easily beat this offer.

Every time I see a crappy Nets offer I know the world is great. Thank you for this laugh. I needed it.

I think OP needs Missi to Brooklyn.

Missi offers the upside of a starting center making 3 or 5.5 mil a year next offseason or the year after if Brooklyn can actually get lucky in free agency either of the next two offseasons.

He has one of the best strokes in the league. But in this era the JJ Redick types really have marginal value. Just a really bad deal for the Nets. I would argue way too good for the Heat, and though better value, worse product for the Pels.

I think New Orleans owes quite a bit here. Count me as another person who doesn't particularly like Claxton and was very vocal about him being overrated, but he is a starting center on a reasonable deal and Murray might never be the same (and was overpaid to begin with).

I haven't watched him play much to be honest upfront. But however pretty his stroke is, it's not translating to buckets in the NBA. 33% from deep on 6 attempts a game last year - and more concerningly, his efficiency has gone down (from 36%) as his attempts have gone up.

For a guy who doesn't have great size for a wing and isn't a superlative athlete, who was drafted as a shooter, that's not going to cut it if he wants to stick in the league.

I mean, Claxton is average, but he's still a 7 footer who you can count on as a starter. The Nets get absolutely nothing here. They wouldn't play Hawkins over the many guards they just drafted. Swap out Hawkins for Missi and we can talk.

My favorite part about this deal is the Nets would be trading for a player currently undergoing a FEDERAL PROBE into THROWING GAMES. That, and they would be trading an ALL-DEFENSIVE player when healthy for a few guys who are not going to play on the BK Nets now due to their roster make up and drafting of players who play the same position as the ones they are receiving.

I know the OP did not mean to do this. So, it is okay. Maybe just remove BK?

I don't know what the situation was last year, the context of those shots. Bad teams usually lead to a lot of bad shots (contested, end of shot clock, etc)

I would think in a better situation, he is going to be prolific at his role.
Nevertheless, this is not a good deal for him and certainly not for the Nets (who just took 3-4 FRP worth of 2-guards)
