The minimum of a $27.8MM starting salary for Kuminga that would be required for this trade to be legal (BYC) is purportedly more than the Kings want to spend on him. Which FRP? The Dubs haven't found the draft capital being offered in S&T deals to be compelling as yet.

That would have to be a pretty good pick to convince me to swallow Kuzma. Like Sacramento’s 2026 unprotected level good

Even a little more than that. Kuzma at 22m+, half of 27.8 plus the 8.5M add, puts it just below 21M. Plus, taking on 22M salary puts them very close to the apron, where they'll be hard-capped unless Sac offers him something crazy. Looks like a non-starter.

The pick would still be the rumored ‘30 lotto protected that turns into the ‘31 worst of Sac/SAS if not conveyed.

You start Kuminga at whatever is needed and have a descending contract and I actually like that better as a safety net for the Kings.

And move off DDR who could very much be a problem otherwise if he is asked to be the sixth man?

Of course you like that better, it’s basically robbery on the Kings’ part. You get Kuminga for free. Now explain why the Warriors would do it, unless you’re holding their families at gunpoint.

It’s not for “free” for Sac as we are still including a pick that will convey.

And as I recall from the other thread, the constant refrain was that Monk doesn’t work for GSW because you need a forward with some size. However else you look at Kuzma, he is that and has shown capable of playing his role with strong vets (Curry, Dray, Butler) to keep him on task. So while yes you are eating some on the money end, ultimately if you are seriously trying g to take two last swings at a chip then this is better than some no name filler forward who cannot contribute that extra when needed in a run.

But that’s just my take.

Monk's the better player (by default, Kuzma's terrible), Kuzma's a better position fit (Monk leaves the roster horribly unbalanced). Kuzma isn't a better "fit" for any team except one that's tanking. Just because he's the right height doesn't matter if he can't be on the floor when it matters.

I get that the roster is pretty guard-heavy after this proposed deal (especially if we're going to sign Melton and GP2 as rumored) but (1) Kerr likes playing 3 guard lineups and (2) Monk brings a scoring punch off the bench that we currently lack and should be a nice fit playing off Jimmy/Dray's playmaking in the non-Steph minutes.

(it's also less of an issue if we end up moving Hield in the deal to get around the apron issues)
