GSW - Dallas

GSW trade: Hield
Dallas trade: Martin

Why for GSW: rumored to be signing GPII and Melton eventually, so makes sense to trade hield for forward depth
Why for Dallas: add more shooting around flagg/AD

Swap of 2 similar contracts. Any 2nd(s) needed? GSW can dump a min contract on someone to avoid being hardcapped if they want

Don't think Ws can really afford to lose Hield.

They would have Curry/Podz/Moody/Melton/GPII in the backcourt. I think martin makes more sense for them given their lack of dept at the forwards spot behind butler/green.

Horford/Post/TJD
Green/ ??
Butler/Moody
Podz/GPII
Curry/Melton

GPII is a center on offense...
None of these players can replace Curry as deaignated shooter, and you must be prepared for Curry to miss time, and he's load managed to 30MPG anyway.

Don't see a depth problem. Curry/Poz/Melton/Hield/Moody will play 1-3, and Butler will split his minutes at 3/4. GPII plays more like a big man. There is a rumor that Warriors might add Seth Curry for depth as well.

You dont see a depth problem at the 4 spot?

Are we talking about 6'5" Caleb Martin or some other guy? I don't think Martin will add depth at PF.
As for big men depth, Butler and Green will cover 4, while Hoford, Post, and TJD will do at 5. And, it seems like Kuminga will be back one way or another.

Yeah I don’t see how swapping Hield for Martin really solves any problems for us, and it definitely creates some (lack of shooting off the bench)

i think martin is not the ideal 4 but he can at least soak up some minutes there, esp on nights that butler will be load managing/injured. GSW have a really crowded backcourt in my view

We have Draymond, Butler, and almost certainly Kuminga splitting minutes at the 4, plus guys like Moody and Gui Santos for mop up duty.

Even if you think Martin is capable of playing meaningful minutes at the 4 (and I don’t), it’s not enough of a need to justify the talent/fit downgrade.

i assumed kuminga will be gone but if he's back then you're right martin is not neded. I dont think talent wise there is much difference between hield and martin.. similar caliber of player with different strengths.

We need Hield’s shooting a lot more than Martin’s…whatever he’s allegedly good at

The biggest Warrior weakness is a lack of 3P shooting, so this is going backwards. Steph/Jimmy create so many open 3P looks, but the team doesn't have enough good 3P shooters to convert.

If there was some kind of Kuminga for Monk deal then this would make some sense for GS, though IMO they're losing on general quality and Martin isn't really the big forward reserve they'd want anyways.

As it looks nearly certain that Kuminga will be back one way or another this deal doesn't make sense for GS.

Yup. Martin is the same size as Moody. If we're going to play an undersized 3 at the 4, we might as well just play the guy we already have.

Are we talking about 6'5" Caleb Martin or some other guy? I don't think Martin will add depth at PF.
As for big men depth, Butler and Green will cover 4, while Hoford, Post, and TJD will do at 5. And, it seems like Kuminga will be back one way or another.

That’s a horribly undersized frontcourt in a league that’s trending bigger again. Horford is ancient and Butler/Green aren’t exactly Ironmen either.

That's true but also not really relevant to this thread. Martin isn't going to solve our frontcourt size issues.

If Dallas wants to talk about a bigger deal involving Gafford I'm all ears.

I have been a Warriors fan for 30+ years, and one thing I learned is that Warriors made an oath to be an undersized team. And, whenever Warriors tried to break the oath, they were severely punished. Saikaly made both Webber and Sprewell revolt, Biedrins got cursed to be a sub 20% FTer overnight, Bogut got hurt in the Final, Cousins got hurt in PO, and Wiseman and POB lost their talents to aliens. So, the oath must be kept.

Seriously though, not much can be done at this point, and 6'5" won't solve the undersized team.
