Cavs, Suns and Jazz

Cavs get: Royce O'Neale and Nick Richards
Suns get: Kyle Anderson and '27 SRP via Nuggets from Cavs
Jazz get: Max Strus
Why?
Cavs get Mitchell's bestie and a back-up big.
Suns add a point forward and a second-round pick.
Jazz adds a veteran shooter.
Edit: More reasonings.
Cavs add depth and toughness and bring Mitchell's friend, who is on a team friendly deal.
Suns unload O'Neale's 3 year deal in favor of Anderson, who only has 1 guaranteed year.
Jazz get the best player in the deal and can be flipped for assets.

I'd pass. Richardson isn't the type of backup the Cavs need and I have Strus as better than O'Neale.

Valid points. Wouldn't it be useful to have a third backup big man? Richards is better than TT.

Yeah, but I think you can get 90% of what Richards offers off the waiver wire.

I don't get this for Utah at all. Strus has a longer contract and really isn't worth what he is paid (it isn't egregious). Anderson's second year is ung. and he has worked with Will Hardy in the past. I think he is certainly tradeable, but there has to be some assets that could be relevant in the future for us. Strus won't be. We also don't really need more shooting, we have plenty of guys who can hit threes at a good clip.

Fair enough. Jazz have lots of bigs that can shoot, but they could use some shooting in their backcourt.

Sensabaugh is one of the best shooters in the league, Keyonte is okay, Clayton should be okay in his first year, so should Ace, Svi can shoot... it is really just Collier who can't. Well, and Cody Williams, but I don't really count him...

I think Richard’s gets bigger return in season after some C injuries pile up.

Is Richards even going to play?
Regardless, to the OP, I think the Cavs would be more likely to do Wade for Richards rather than Strus for O'Neale + Richards.

For phx, yes? He’s a good center on a cheap contract. Worst case he’s likely worth a few seconds after some injuries start.

Richards is third on the depth chart behind Williams and Maluach, unless they send Maluach to the G-League. Phoenix grabbed both those guys despite having Richards. So if he doesn’t see court time after being disposed of twice by teams that are searching for a C, I can’t see him holding any value. (Of course, Mark Williams is pretty injury-prone and PHX likely needs him to be their own injury insurance.)

That’s not how value works

Value is what someone is willing to pay, and for Richards that has historically been a 2nd round pick or two. It's likely that we will just see more of the same.

Not saying he’s worth a first. I don’t agree he holds no value. A Good and very cheap center will likely be sought after in season after a few injuries hit.

I could see Atlanta wanting Richards so that if KP goes down they still have a reasonable backup.

Strus is not good at all, dont see how Cle gets 2 serviceable players for him

Except Richards isn't *tough* (pound for pound Strus is a lot tougher). That's the problem. This is like when the Browns used to trade back into the first round for a QB with a 3rd round grade. You still don't have a starting QB and you're also out whatever you gave up.

Strus starts and is the best player in the trade. He shot .386 from 3 last season on a hair under 6 apg. He was +8.9 last season.

Strus is fine, if a bit overpaid. It's the additional year that makes it a nonstarter for Utah. Everything they've done this summer fits their reported plan of maximizing cap space next summer. I don't see them deviating from that for Max.
