Hornets trade Pat Connaughton
Blazers trade Time Lord

The Blazers shave off $4M in salary, creating some breathing room from the luxury tax line which they are currently very close to.
The Hornets give up nothing for [hopefully] a productive center. Diabate/Time Lord/Kalkbrenner all split minutes at that position, and hopefully Kalkbrenner is ready for minutes by the time Williams has his annual injury. Even if Williams can only manage 30 games at 15-20mpg, that's 500+ minutes of good center play the Hornets probably didn't have before... and we'll take that.

Can some team angling for cap space send out a near min level player to POR and give up a SRP?

If Blazers don't have need for Pat on the bench, they can talk Hornets into some cash considerations for a possible buy out.

Ya RWIII is uniquely unreliable but I still take the chance he gives 25+ games as an excellent backup over PC who would be 4th string at both SG and SF.

Reath is an ideal 3rd Center, but you can't play him 20 minutes a night as a primary backup and expect to win games.

Clingan gets in foul trouble, Yang is promising but his defense will be very bad at first, and the Blazers seem committed to a play-in run. RWIII is unreliable, but we can at least hope that he gives us 16-20min a night for 50 games.

he havent played more than 40 each of past 3 years..

I have no idea the trade, but they should almost keep Pat until they can find a team looking to dump salary for the following season. Or just cut him after the deadline.

I keep trying to come up with Pat to Denver for Zeke Nnjai, but Denver has very little assets

Key word is "hope." If we trade RWIII, we're committed to the Center position being a major negative. If we keep RWIII, we have a chance at a decent rotation.

I wouldn't have chosen the "compete for the play-in" route, but because the front office chose it, we might as well hold onto an expiring, good locker-room vet who gives us a shot at competent defense.

Portland has no reason to do this. Getting $4 million more under the tax is not a very good reason and should something happen to make this actually relevant, that's when Portland should do this swap not now.

Whether Timelord plays 20 games or 50, he should help more than Connaughton.

What about Robert Williams for Josh Green + a 2nd? Or if you're super worried about not having any 3rd or 4th C, we add Mason Plumlee once he's eligible?

This is worse for Portland who takes on extra money for a guy that would not want. They have Jrue, Sharpe, Thybulle, and bench long shots on Wesley/Rupert.

I think if an offer that was actually positive value was made, Portland could look at it if they really trust Yang.. But I think Timelord play more minutes per game than Yang, unless Yang is an instant hit.. Portland is semi-win now and should keep the really good “per minute” player if it’s just junk for junk..

What does Portland want/need the most? Cap relief, second round picks, a wing, a guard? I feel like Charlotte can offer a guard, cap relief and second round picks for a player like RWIII.

They are a pretty well rounded team, so what they really need is a star that can bring them to the next level. Little tweaks probably are not doing much for this team right now, and moving RWIII out of the center rotation for other positions or low assets probably hurts the balance of the team more than solving it. Saving a little cap does little for us, 2nds do little for us, other positions of guys with similar value does little for us. To get Rob, it probably takes an overpay for Portland to accept thinning out the center position.

You can have Rob for Salaun.
